Ok. Thanks for the help. That makes way more sense.

I also found this in one of the FAQ's:

Quote:

We try to get the product to you within 10 working days for plastics and sandstone. 14 working days for the metal products and 21 working days for the glass products. We count from the moment we receive your payment. This means within 10, 14 or 21 working days if you pay directly by credit card or Paypal. If you pay with an E-check on Paypal it takes 3-5 working days for your check to get cleared. You need to add these to the standard working days for the material that you order.

No idea why its not stated so clearly on the shipping page, but its solid information. Thanks for your help.

I'm reading the shipping page and I'm a little confused by the wording. Could anyone help me out?
From this page: http://www.shapeways.com/support/shipping

Quote:

For personalize your own the delivery time starts when the designer has adjusted your product. For all other orders we count from the moment we receive your payment. This means within 10, 14 or 21 working days if you pay directly by credit card or Paypal. If you pay with an E-check on Paypal it takes 3-5 working days for your check to get cleared.
So, for clarification the process will go like this:
1- Payment processed
2- Design cleared
3- Shipped by UPS

On step one, it can take anywhere from 10 to 21 days to process the payment -if payed with credit card or Paypal. Yet only 3-5 days if E-Check (also using Paypal). This doesn't make much sense to me as either way Paypal is what's holding up the process...

I want to pay with a AMEX, but the idea of waiting almost a month is making me consider opening a Paypal account with e-checking. Is the time difference between the methods really this drastic?

Thanks for your time.

As indicated, some materials may not be allowed by SW because the model does not conform to the 'rules' and you can further limit the selection yourself. Just keep in mind that material properties, and hence design limits, are different across the set, so some materials may be automatically made unavailable, e.g. when the model would be too big to fit in a certain printer, or too delicate for a certain material.

erm... something's wrong with that

afaik, silver is polished with a machine, not by hand - the part may be held in the hand whilst the part is being buffed.
from a recent email "There is a possibility that it might bend due to the high intensive polishing but production wants to try it."
To me 'high intensive polishing' implies a machine polish not a careful hand polish.

UPS is plain ROBBERY. I just paid $16 brokerage fee for a $19 model I printed from shapeways.

This needs to be a Shapeways priority. I would love to work with you guys but not if I have to pay double for everything. Please implement a Canadian shipping solution soon.

I too sell on Turbosquid. And yes I think Shapeways is missing out on huge revenues by not offering this service. They probably will one day offer it, but in the meanwhile there is a place like Turbosquid but only for 3D printable models. Go to 3dprintingmodel.com I've corresponded with the owner before and he is very friendly. They give an instant 90% commission through PayPal. I have a few things up there and have sold one item, but it'll be several years before they reach Turbosquid status.

Cyberpath wrote on Fri, 01 March 2013 07:59

I have my eyes on some models but $20 is just too much to ship a few knickknacks. Any progress?

While my earlier statement about being hit with a $14 charge from UPS on a $7.50 order still stands, I have noticed lately that if I keep my orders under around $20 I don't get hit with any extra charges. So, if I order two $20 models in two orders and pay $13 shipping it works out cheaper ($53) than putting it into one order and paying $40 for the models, $6.50 shipiing and then a UPS robbery charge of $15.20 for a total of $61.70.
