Because SW charges by volume for all materials except Ceramic.

Your box is large for a SW object and the walls are thick. If you go to your Model page and Edit it it will tell you the Volume. Then you can use the prices on the Materials pages to figure out the cost.

Good afternoon guys,

I am trying to print this but I have no idea why I get thin walls problems. Some of the highlighted issues are thicker than the other parts which are thinner but have no problem.

It is getting very frustrated and I had to demolish such a lot of detail to get it to print I am approaching the point where I think this cannot be printed at the resolution and size.

This is a WIP and I am just randomly thickening parts in a crude way to get it past submission. Is there any program that can just do a thickness check before I submit as I have had 7 submissions and every time there are some parts that are okay and some not.

Notes:

This is a miniature that is used in role-playing games. It is +/- 28mm x 28mm big. I am trying to print it is ultra detail frost (as I assume this is the medium with the best detail)

I think it should be a simple design: it has three parts:
The Bottom
The middle shelf (will be painted red)
The lid

The bottom will have a indented lip so that the lid (will use a clear material) can slide over the shelf and contact with the bottom part.
Thus, the design looks like this:

The middle shelf (will slide into the bottom part and be covered by the lid) It is also hollowed out inside to save on printing material. :

A simple lid (will be printed with a translucent material):

When I check for watertight meshes, I of course run into problems... due to the hollowed out design:

Any idea on what I should do to finish this project? Attached are the SketchUp files.

Thanks for reading / any advice.

I'm close to opening my shop here on Shapeways after many months of learning Blender for Shapeways purposes and tweaking my designs. Here is a clip that will hold your bottle cap and also serve as a stand for your smartphone.. I guess this is more a technical issue, how much distance do I need to keep from the different parts of a model so they won't fuse together when 3D printed?

Also, I am trying this out myself keeping it on my keychain and carrying it, but would appreciate any feedback on the idea as well. It's a fairly cheap product that tackles two separate issues. I imagine most people already have some form of kickstand or stand for their smartphones, but I just got my new HTC One phone and guess what, it has no such stand.. this thing works great on it.

The other issue my product solves is one that has not a lot of products on the market that do so, but I find I come across this when driving and would like to just have a bottle of soda open for a little while without having to find a place to put down the cap and later look for it or having to hold the bottle and the cap at the same time. Or am I the only one? lol

Thanks.

iPad Carry

Ok, so this is my first attempt at something like this, so go easy!

Surprisingly (or not!) there isn't much like this on the market other than an expensive aluminium one, and a cheap 'kiddie' one made from EVA foam.

The design was driven not by the need for a handle per se, but for a way to steady video shoots made with the iPad. Bear with me on this.

You see, an iPad held from the end of your arm makes for a crude Stedicam - and because of the positioning of the handle on my iPad Carry, the lens is towards the lower edge, meaning you can 'sweep' the iPad over stuff or get dramatic low level shots. That's the idea anyway. Also, it's a handle!

This test print was a bit on the tight side, which called for some (ok, lots) of sanding and some minor modifications with a Dremel to get the fit in the photo and even then it's tight. The clip is sturdy if not that pretty, but often the simplest approach is the best. And the hole for the headphones is way out; don't know what was going on there... my measurement point of reference must have been out.

That's a gorgeous design! Nice job!

I'd think an interesting option would be either basic silver or unpolished gold plated stainless - letting natual handling do the polishing to get some interesting variation in level of finish.

Silver Glossy would be very nice, don't think Premium Silver will be possible because they won't be able to polish inside the cavities ?
