You'll have to incorporate all of the parts as one 3D file, like STL or OBJ for example. Keep it under 64 megabytes and under one million polygons. To the best of my knowledge, without double checking, Shapeways only uses the zip option for 3D files that include an image map.

Also, make sure none of the parts are two close together or they will be fused together when printed. And note that some materials, the metals for example, do not let you have multiple non-connected parts within the same file.

The elasto contest got me thinking about redesigning my fishing lures (aka lurerings) into more robust and interesting fishing lures. The original versions look like this when completed with split rings, hooks, and fake fish lure eyes (that come with sticky back adhesive): http://shpws.me/nsk0

The eye bump that the eye is stuck on is also used as the infusion point by Shapeways in the stainless steel process. As a result it may not be perfectly flat and since it sticks out the eye may fall off in weedy fishing situations. You could regrind the bump flatter yourself or it is not a problem if you simply use paint to create the eye.

There are two revised versions, "sunken eye" and "no eye" I created for the summertime o'fun contest. Sunken eye" has a small cavity into which the fake eye may be stuck to provide some protection or you can cast your own eye into the cavity with waterproof glue/epoxy and colored inserts like tiny glass beads. "No eye" has, uh, no eye but I was thinking the elasto process could be used to make rubber eye plugs that fit into the eye hole. Or the elasto inserts could fit into the body hole behind the eye. They could be bushy/spiky things that plump up the lure to make it look larger or cause different movements in the water. And of course you could leave the eye open for a different look.

Oh, you can also configure the lure so that either end is the hook if you think the fish are smart enough to admire your artistic fishing choices.

Ah, yes. I did not found RIT en France (and even Dylon, in particular the "all-purpose" Dylon is hard to find). The instructions only mentioned salt, but thanks for the tip: next time, I will try vinegar for WSF.

A funny fact I did not mention, is that the mix of water and dye powder react a little bit like soapy water: it forms some films inside objects that are shaped like rings. And like bubbles, those films burst, projecting small droplets of colored water all around them (you can see some soap-like films in the video).

Magic,
if you look at the tips on Rit's website, you will see that they recommend adding vinegar for Nylon and using salt for cotton & linen. Since Shapeways tells you that WSF is a nylon rather than a cotton or linen, vinegar is probably going to work better for you than salt. Vinegar is what I used, and my parts came out pretty dark in only 5mins. I realize that you used a different brand of dye, but I suspect that they are all pretty similar. That's a cool shade of green.

Thanks for the help I looked into supports and it seems pretty cool. I was thinking I would have to add the support but it looks like it does it for you. I bought a rapidbot 3.0 From what I can tell they don't have their own forums.

Hey thanks James, I'll investigate that further and try it out.
It will probably take me awhile to workout how things work (or don't work).
Good luck with your shop!
Cheers

First you make a 3D model for each size and upload them to Shapeways. Set each one for sale at the price you want to sale them for including your markup, but do not make them viewable by the public. Then take the most common size and make that viewable as well as for sale and use the Product Variants Mod to link to your other sizes within the description text.

Another thing good to know is that the description text box found on the edit product page uses Rich Text. Consequently, you can use a Rich Text editor like this one to make all kinds of customizations, including the addition of images.

Nothing says summer to me more that being able to get out and do all those things that the wind and the rain don't allow. Since I'm a bit of a geek, this does not extend to beaches and sunbathing lol... but it does extend to hobbies and experiments:).. and one of my favorite hobbies.........ROCKETS!, as far as I can tell this was the first all in one fully printed rocket to be made.., with easy reload mechanism, fin mounted launch lug and only weighs 8 grams.
