Hi guys,

I use Poser to get my base mesh and then I export to Zbrush, use subtool extraction and then usually I go to Subtool master and merge all, deleting the old subtools. Then I export the merged mesh as an stl in 3d print exporter.

SO far I've had mixed results, half of my models have no problems after being fixed in netfabb and others cannot be fixed - "surface not orientable" in netfabb and shapeways errors produce "mixed winding triangles" errors.

After one of the moderators looked at my model that I was having problems with he said that there were holes in the face from the teeth and that all the clothing meshes were seperate from the base mesh and they needed to be booleaned together - little help?

Thanks all for confirming, all info has been forwarded and the proper people have been alerted.
(Might take a few hours till US wakes up)

So far it seems like an honest (but stupid ) mistake in payments.
And it looks like the new front-end has some minor issues, which I am sure will be fixed very soon.

But so far I have seen no sign that the order overview figures would be wrong.

And rest assured, in my 3 years as shop owner, all inconsistencies have ALWAYS been solved to full satisfaction.

Let's try to see it as growing pains?
(going from tens/hundreds of shop owners and (manual) payments to automated thousands(?) requires system upgrades )

And as far as I can tell, payments were made on the 15th ? (US time)

Cheers,

Yes, I got paid the exact same amount as last month

This was supposed to be paid on the 15th, it was a day late.

The numbers are supposed to be correct, but the amounts which have been paid are different to the numbers.

This whole system system seems to have broken down, I have little trust anymore even in the spreadsheet, the rest of the numbers in the new calculator are wrong, the amounts paid are wrong and the payment is late.

I much prefered the old Shapeways 3 years ago, sure it was simpler, but it WORKED which as a customer/co-partner with a shop was all that mattered to me.

The worst thing you can do when you have an issue like this is start giving out dates for when things will be corrected, with anything like this you can get unknown spanners in the works and missing a deadline you have set reduces trust and moral.

Kindest Regards,
We don't have the crazy UPS charges that Canadian users have to put up with but that is a massive shipping charge for a 23gram part is it not?
yeah my figures are all right except the most recent ones are displaying correctly

instead of showing a "march 16 '12 - april 15 '12" and "april 16 12' - may 15 '12" it seems to have lumped both payments into a single payment designated "nov 16 '11 - may 15 '12" that will be paid on june 15th....

but its a minor issue as the figures do seem to finally be correct and the issue seems to be how they're displayed...

also should say I'm quite happy with how this has been handled with shapeways finding and planning on paying lost sales and dealing out gift cards to affected stores...

Hi everyone,

Good news! We've been hard at work on a long-term solution to ensure you have full visibility into your shop payments, and today we launched a major update to the shop payments page. You now have a full, clear history of how much you've made with your Shapeways shop, what payments are currently pending, and what sales you've made in the current transaction period. Moreover, you'll be able to see this info broken out according to payment status and date, order information, markup, and total payment. You can read all about the details on the "how we pay" page
In the process, we unearthed a few discrepancies and have emailed the handful of users affected individually.

We've tested this with a few of you already and hope that this is a far more intuitive way to get an accurate picture of your shop finances. As always, we welcome any and all feedback (In this thread). We'll also be sending you this information by email, so you can you share your thoughts there as well.

As we've said in the past, your shop finances are our top priority. We know that accounting is rarely a cup of tea, so this is one step of many we plan to take to improve the insights and information you have about your Shapeways shop.

Best,

The "organic bits" are in fact corn cob tumbling media. This is granulated corn cob treated, with jewelers rouge and used for producing the final hi polish. This media has a tendency to become trapped in tight places. Yes, it is a booger to remove, but there really is no substitute in production finishing methods. Sewing needles or a fresh #10 Exacto blade are favored for removal of this stuff.

This material is a true composite, a blend of stainless steel and bronze. Parts are (or should be) solid and consistent to the core. Printed parts are barrel tumbled to smooth and polish the surfaces. The natural color of this material is generally greyish silver with a slight red/gold blush. Parts that are plated or have the "bronze" finish can not be further polished without removing these treatments. If you want to do more polishing on your own it would be best to order parts in the basic SS finish. It is not very difficult to add your own bronze patina. This can be done either with heat or chemically. I believe you will find some discussions about this here on the forum.

You've got a massive amount of holes, particularly in the area of the mouth. I used NetFabb to close all the holes and it gave me a model that should be uploadable.

Your model includes separate meshes for the clothing apart from the body itself. There is also quite a bit of detail inside the mouth behind the mask.. teeth??? This is not necessary.. you should attempt to boolean together all the meshes so that you have only a single final mesh. That will drastically cut down your filesize, and help with some of the other issues you're having.

DodBox in Ceramics

Hi all,

A long time ago, I designed the DodBox (see also this thread).
I wanted to do something similar for Ceramics for a long time. The new colors for ceramics have been the right opportunity to do it now.
So here it is, the DodBox in Ceramics:

This is a rounded version, also inspired by the Truncated Sphere D12.
It is quite thick so the box can (hopefully) be closed, and as the original one, it is stackable (more renders on the product page).
I am curious to see how it works, and I'd like to mix the colors...

Just a note re selling on Etsy since I have been doing that for quite a while... (and thinking about stopping)

Yes, as noted above you have to get the item shipped to you and then ship it to the customer. For me this REALLY kills profit and sales. Factoring in the outlandish fees I have to pay UPS at the door and then more cost to ship the product just doesn't result in a lot of sales. I can hand make a piece of jewellery in pure silver (which I do) and sell it cheaper than a piece in sterling silver that I've had made on Shapeways....

Of course, if you are selling something really unique looking it's a bit easier to charge more since it can't be purchased elsewhere. BUT with that in mind don't sell a piece on Etsy for $100 AND sell the exact same piece in your Shapeways store for $45.... Your Etsy customer is gonna get real mad!

I was recently commissioned to produce a pendant for a clothing company and came up with the below. I had it printed in stainless steel and (inadvertantly!) pushed the limits of s/steel printing regarding the text areas... Sorry, but I didn't take a before picture; the pendant arrived with all kinds of what seemed to be organic "bits" jammed into the lettering which I had to dig out with a superfine needle point, and then I polished the front and back with a Dremel.

While I certainly wouldn't deliberately design the lettering this size again I'm quite happy that it printed almost 100% correctly. The pendant is 2" in height.
So, please give me some advices on my designs.
It is a hollow toroid with the 0.2mm wall thickness.
And there are spacing holes on the surface.
And the adjacent parts are supported 1mm wide bridges.
Do you think this design is feasible with the stainless steel printing?
Furthermore I want to plate copper on the printed stainless steel.
Do you think it is okay for plating copper? (I'm totally new to 3d printing and plating).
Please give me some hints.
