Try to build one for real, and you'll see it's a big difference. The missile racks are a remake of models I've build with traditional techniques a half life ago (...in the days when we had to work with wood and/or garbage to create tabletop accessories), but CAD software plus rapid prototyping made it much easier to create a svelte socle for them. Oh, by the way, I suppose it's just a fortuity that the pedestal for your missile turret looks basically exactly like a Calliope Tower (as seen in Mechwarrior 4)? (^_^)/"

Take a close look on it.
Your models were build in a four frequency architecture, and I use a three frequency calculation. That makes them flatter, but it also requires less different parts to build such a dome.
...and all modern geodesic domes are derivations of the intrinsic mathematics developed by Richard Fuller in the early 1950s.
