I've always been a fan of these cars from my youth, I remember playing with the Corgi models of the Lotus and Ferrari as a kid. With the film Rush focussing attention on the 1976 season, I really wanted to make these cars (so I could play with them again!)

I'd previously modelled these at 1:200 scale as gaming pieces, but at 1:100 I could add a whole new level of detail and accuracy. In a couple of cases I had to revise the thickness of an element for it to print reliably - the roll-over protection hoop was a particular challenge, but I found I could push the limits of the material guidelines because the details were well supported by other material. After several months work, this week I received the last of my designs in my material of choice: glossy antique bronze plated stainless steel.

The 1:100 scale is just right to make each car an elegant keyring ornament so I added a discreet loop under the rear wing of each car to allow them to be used that way, or as a pendant.

Thanks Shapeways!

There are so many pendants in Shapeways and I'd like to just add to the vast collection!

Many years ago, my cousin gave me a gift from Korea. I was one of those traditional folding fans ... but just as interesting was the box that came with it. The box had all these traditional patterns and designs. So I kept the box, thinking that someday these designs can be used for something.

Seeing so many pendants on Shapeways, I thought how perfect it would be to share these designs with the community. Korean art is still very underrepresented in the West, so some of my motivation comes from the drive to spread these beautiful designs to everyone.

First a thanks to Natalia, it was a pleasant surprise to see my Spike Print in last week's Friday Finds.

I'd be very proud to see it featured more on Shapeways. With so much amazing feedback online, it showed this print is a great example of what full-color printing is capable of at Shapeways. Also, with 5 orders placed in the first week, it shows how serious 3D prints can be taken as a piece of art or collectable.

As a 3D artist, I enjoy modeling my favorite characters in 3D. Oddly, it can be very relaxing and I enjoy the puzzle like challenge of topology. I get lost in it, losing track of time. Though, just as I started years ago, my motivation slowly dwindled. After all the hard work, there wasn't much I can do with it. Then I discovered how far 3D printing has improved, full-color offered, and finally accessible thanks to services like Shapeways. This was very exciting and my motivation was back! These days when I start a new project, my goal is to usually create accurate sculptures of my favorite characters that have no equivalent option available. There have been a few set backs trying to push the most out of 3D printing, but I learned from my mistakes to better produce printable models.

Designing Spike was a great experience. In the past, I usually create simple figures that stand alone. For whatever reason, I decided take this one further by adding a base and props with a dynamic pose that interacted with them. When the first print arrived, I was amazed by the quality, colors and how it looked like a real maquette from a studio. The extra work was worth it. Now I look forward to completing more projects with similar scopes.

Preparing a print with so many elements did create new challenges. Recent updates to ZBrush offered great solutions to tackle this, but not without hair pulling moments after doing everything right. The end piece for 3D printing is one merged mesh (not intersecting), hollow, uses vertex colors instead of textured UVs, and decimated to around 375,000 polygons.

It was a happy moment when I received the ready to print email from Shapeways.

...and by "success" I mean, "they didn't fly apart into a thousand pieces"! Wink

They could probably be further refined to improve their performance, but this clearly proves that Shapeways can produce useful, out-of-the-box RC propellers that can withstand high RPM.

@ElisaRichardson this is my creation i´m proud of
a cup of coffee inspired by the form of a chicken egg this is the expresso egg coffee cup:
http://www.shapeways.com/model/828317/espresso-egg-coffee-cu p.html?li=productBox-search
it took me some time to reach the design i want, something that was inspired in nature but at the same time that looks
modern and and different from other cups.this was 3d impressed in white strong & flexible material so i can use it as a mold
to work it with an artisan or craftsman to make many of them in ceramic. i don´t tested yet in that material but surely i want to
see soon not only in plastic. i hope you like it, i put so much effort in it Laughing

Hyrule Imperial Brace
(white strong & flexible)

http://www.shapeways.com/model/772983/hyrule-emperial-brace. html?li=productBox-search

http://www.shapeways.com/shops/WolfShop

this actually came to be because of a tattoo i decided to imprint on my arm, people were asking what i wanted drawn and i made it in 3d (since its my strong suit) well one click led to another and BOOM this brace was born.
i enjoy it very much and it goes well with most of my dress shirts so its a double whammy .
this actually concerned me in the building process i made it accommodate the average wrist so it scarred me that it wouldn't fit me. but ey it does so i guess its one size fit all then.

id like to thank the shape ways team again , its a funny mix of emotions when your models dosent get printed because of 0.03mm . its made be more conscience when i model so thank you guys.

@ElisaRichardson
it fits all ages mostly my little bro loves it as much as i do , (i might have to print another) . id love it if this would be featured .

HYRULE PENDANT (Alumide)

http://www.shapeways.com/model/771835/hyrule-pendant.html?li =productBox-search

http://www.shapeways.com/shops/WolfShop

a Rendition to my favorite game and child hood memories. a little new to the old kind post modernism type thing, fans will appreciate the zelda esque figure, regulars will see the simplicity and love it for what it is in essence.
i simply love how this model turned out it looks ridiculously beautiful in alumide and id like to see if others think the same.

i think the hardest part of this was the waiting , i didn't know how it would look till it was here, the smile this little 2 inch thing brought me ... priceless.

id like to thank the testers at shapeways for being prompt at telling me what i modeled wrong and nintendo for the inspiration.

What do you think @ElisaRichardson ,Friday find material???
id love to see my models posted and the feed back ive gotten from people has been great. in short it would do me a great honor if you would.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Sixth Sense Huge is a huge version of the Sixth Sense puzzle ring, meant as big demo model. This six-part puzzle ring is a design by Bram Cohen, and developed by Oskar van Deventer. It is a "size 190", with an inner diameter of 60 mm and an outer diameter of nearly 90 mm. A solution was worked out by Daniel Danzi and D=D=, two puzzle-ring enthusiasts from Virginia, USA.

I've been having a great time creating Shells and Christmas ornaments for Shapeways!
So far, I've only gotten a couple of samples back (more to arrive soon!)

I've created these using Blender's Python api, which has been good fun to learn.
And then I've been using Meshlab to apply various color schemes.
(I'm working toward creating the color directly in blender, but Meshlab has given me some very nice results)

Originally I was just planning to create interesting Art and Sculptures, but then my wife gave me the brilliant idea to turn them into Christmas Ornaments.

Anyway, Here's my shop:
Chuck's Oddities

Here's a link to the my first printed Full Color Shell:
Spiral Shell 2, Small
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_775436_673536_1354171150.jpg

Here's another Un-colored shell that came out nicely:
Natural Twisted Shell
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_772439_674008_1354171655.jpg

I think this is one of the coolest shells so far, very excited to get this one back from the robots:
Exotic Red Striped Shell
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_777686_653164_1353102979.jpg

Here are a couple of Xmas Ornaments that I can't wait to be fabricated:
Brightly Colored Spiral Christmas Ornament
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_805413_680690_1354283687.jpg

I actually sold one of these (hope it comes out nicely for them!)
Red/White Spiral Shell Christmas Ornament
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_789822_665431_1353694468.jpg

As far as my experiences go, many of these have been pushing the limits of Shapeway's checking and processing.
My little programs can easily generate shapes that exceed the 1 million polygon limit. I've tried keeping them to around 800k, but even then, I sometimes don't get a 3d viewer or rendered example.. Netfabb seems to help some for fixing and repairing.
I've had great support from Martin, who has been very helpful and has given me some great tips.

Thank you Shapeways!
-Chuck

Hi Shapeways fans,

Opposition Cube is a type of Constrained Cube. Rods are going all the way through the cube in three directions, so each face is bandaged by the opposite face.

Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Enabler Cube was suggested in a discussion at the Twisty Puzzles Forum. It acts like a Rubik's Cube with blocked layers. Only three layers can turn, i.e. those in which the rounded "enabler" cubie resides. Specialists may call this type of turning "deeper-than-deep cut". This puzzle is sort-of the opposite of Fused Cube, where the three layers of the special corner cubie cannot turn.

This puzzle was inspired by a similar design by Evgeniy Grigoriev with an unlocking edge instead of an unlocking corner, and a comment by Bram Cohen.

Watch the YouTube video.

The perfectly valid QR-code hides a piece of text, an internet address or any other short message type which can be stored in a QR-code. We can add a simple image or logo to the code without compromising its validity.

The unique QR-tops can be produced by Shapeways, and after that, we blacken the engraved pixels of the code and mount the top on its support to form a pair of cufflinks, a finger ring or a pair of earrings.

• The base for the finger ring is available in 7 sizes and 10 different colors.
• The earrings can be mounted on nickel-free pins or earclips.

Due to limitations of the Shapeways shop system and the necessary post-processing steps, the items cannot be ordered on the store. Please contact us directly to arrange for your personal QR message and other options:

Hello Shapeways!

After many weeks of designing, I have finally finished prototyping my iPhone 5 bumper. This bumper is the first of its kind in that, it is too small for the iPhone! how will it work you say? Simply heat the bumper case just a little and slip it on. As it cools, the case will become tighter on the phone causing it to be more anti-fall-off-able! This will allow the case to be more resistant to heat expansion and the possibility of it coming loose.

Here is my recent house necklace design:

http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_749751_647762_1352847888.jpg
http://www.shapeways.com/model/749751/house-simple-necklace. html
This listing includes the house only. Chain NOT included. This design is capable of fitting on any small chain of your choosing. You can string the chain or small leather or silk cord through the attic space in the house which is hollow from end to end. The house in the picture was polished a bit by me after it was printed. 3d printing does cause slight surface variations and the house you receive may have a slightly more pitted surface. I also sell a house ring which you can find in my shop.

This design features a cute little house that I designed to look like the stereotypical pre colonial house often chosen as a model for doll house constructions. There are details on all four sides of the house. Center of the house is open and you can peer into the house through the windows and the door. One side features cloud-like little bushes while the other side displays a jagged shape to represent grass. The attic space is also empty (going all the way through) so that this can be strung on a chain and worn as a necklace.

Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Khaled's Time Machine was suggested by Khaled Habbab. His idea combines Polo Gear Cube (conceived by Alex Polonsky) and Time Machine (by Li Chung Man).

Watch the YouTube video.

Hi everyone,
I've been having alot of fun with Shapeways recently, trying to produce completely finished (as in requiring no further machining) 3D printed parts for various assemblies.
I've had some success in the past with a strong and flexible Plastic AAA Torch Host but i've just completed something a little more interesting:

My fully working 3D printed silver torch:

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg017b.jpg

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg018b.jpg

The tritium vials are 6x2mm.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg023b.jpg

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg012b.jpg

The lights specifications are:

an XM-L U2 mounted on a 16mm copper board,

shining through a Carclo 10003 20mm TIR lens,

driven by an uprated 3.04A 8xACM7135 multi-mode driver set to low/medium/high with memory,

powred by an AW IMR 16340 high discharge cell,

controlled by a tail mounted mcclicky switch and extra sprung silver switch cover.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg039b.jpg

I probably won't make nine hundred and ninety nine of them though.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg028b.jpg

Threads turned out very well, they are the same 20tpi pitch on the surefire P/C/Z series, about 1.3mm pitch.

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Torches/ToftyAg036b.jpg

All the silver parts were ordered as i single sprued part which can be seen here and the gold plated brass bezel and tail rings ordered from another 3D printers.

The evolution of the design of this light and the thought process behind it can be read in this forum thread. It's abit long but goes through some of the issues i came up against during this project.

If it means I don't have to bloody make it myself then it can only be a good thing.

I have always been enthusiastic about astronauts, rockets and space travel. I like to watch stars at night, read about galaxies, planets and space exploration. Being able to print this rocket cup and have it at home, see its awesome rocket-like shape on my desk, and drink from it, is like a dream come true Very Happy

If you are like me, or you just like the futuristic and aerodynamic shape of this cup, you can order it from my shapeways shop.

This cup fits 5 oz / 150 ml of your favourite drink and it's made of glazed ceramics. A fitting lid complements the rocket-y shape and helps keep your drink warm (and protected from that dangerous space radiation!). The cup and lid are separate models and they can be ordered separately, in the same or different colours!

I have just received a 3D print of my design of the Centre Point tower (which stands at the eastern end of Oxford Street in central London). The model has been printed in White, Strong and Flexible. There is a lot of very fine detail (0.3 and 0.4mm) which allows the model to be printed in this scale. This includes the words ' CENTRE POINT' at the top of the front and rear elevations of the tower.

The model can be viewed in my shop:

Eagle mask, worn by performer Erika Bansen

I designed a series of masks for my Hoop Troops (the ThreeForm promotional performance group) to wear at Maker Faire, and they were unexpectededly popular. I had literally hundreds of people ask us where they could buy them. The ones I had brought were very thick and printed by an extrusion based printer, so they were too costly for Shapeways. Luckily I've thinned them down and made them available in the more appropriate flexible nylon material. They are available singly, as well as in multi-packs. Great for parties! There is still time left to order some for Halloween!

The three designs created so far are:

The Venetian Maskhttp://40westdesigns.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/674x501_731449_599946_1349829857.jpg

Hi Shapeways fans,

Geared Hex is a hexagonal version of Bram's Cube. The hexagonal part turns similar to a Rubik's Cheese or a Rubik's UFO puzzle. The top and bottom layers are connected by a set of gears at the middle layer. The gears are split in half, which allows even more scrambling.

Watch the YouTube video.

Twelve double hearts geometrically positioned. The idea to arrange the hearts like such, came after several other unsatisfactory variants. The double heart is based on a cuff-link i'm working on.

The night before this piece came into existence, i was working on the same design, which amused me much, but sadly was unprintable. So i remade it the night after. Gold looks good on it, very pleased with that. Shapeways delivered fast, i'd say at least a week before i expected the items, so thanks for that.
