PrintAhead is a standalone Windows application that lets anyone create and upload color 3D printed busts of people. In an intuitive process users create realistic 3D heads from a single photo which can be printed into color sandstone statues. For a 3 minute QuickStart overview watch PrintAhead QuickStart:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cejdijABQY

PrintAhead is easy to use and can accommodate users at different skill levels, from beginners to advanced 3D users. For each task there is a "Teach Panel" that gives a step-by-step overview of the task. These panels also feature a video link to watch the steps for even better support.

PrintAhead uses a number of advanced features, such as: a. Automatic „Face-rotation" to rotate tilted portraits into the upright position b. Automatic recognition of eye and mouth features c. „Autodot" feature automatically adds dots to describe face shape, position and shape of eyes, mouth and nose. d. The "Profile" tool lets user import a second (profile) photo to trace profile for greater reality. e. PrintAhead is delivered with libraries of hairstyles, accessories and color textures for hair.

PrintAhead is set up to deliver 3D print-ready files for either black and white output (STL) or for full-color sandstone 3D prints by Shapeways.com. On output the program even launches Shapeways website for you. On upload you can preview your statue, size it and see pricing information on the output. Current pricing for a 3"tall full color statue can be between $70-80 + shipping.

I have the idea to create something for the European championship 2016.
So why not a Bottle opener for the many beer bottles.

I combined the art and the pattern of the football and create a Bottle opener from this.

Printed in Stainless Steel.

This is my first time printing some of my topological knots pendants and other geometric jewelry in steel (and one in bronze), I'm very happy with the results. These are all pendants that don't have eyelets or bails so you can wear them different ways.

Seashell Pendant
index.php?t=getfile&id=153402&private=0
This one is actually in unpolished bronze. I wanted to make a seashell pendant that didn't have a visible eyelet or need any findings so I tucked a bar inside the shell. With some patience you can get a thin chain to go over and under the bar to attach the pendant, I had to remove the clasp ends first and put them back on after, but I think the effort is worth it for the visual effect.

Braided Septafoil and Triple Trefoil Knot Pendants
index.php?t=getfile&id=153407&private=0
index.php?t=getfile&id=153408&private=0
These are printed in stainless steel with no additional post-processing. Since I am interested in knot theory I wanted to make models of topological knots that could also double as jewelry and 3D printing is perfect for that.

Mobius Band Pendant
index.php?t=getfile&id=153411&private=0
This is the well-known one-sided surface printed in polished bronze steel.

Seven Petal Pinwheel
index.php?t=getfile&id=153412&private=0
This one is printed in polished gray steel. It's darker than I expected. Originally I only had it for sale in cast metal but the steel print test came out perfect.

Hello, as many of us I use Shapeways services to build my master copies in order to clone them with silicone molds and then resin casts.

One issue I noticed is that seldom I receive from Shapeways some pieces not perfectly dry.
Those "wet" pieces have a problem when in contact with the liquid silicone used for the molds. Once the silicone dries It is supposed not to attach to the master copy piece. It is so just when the master copy is dry, when it is "wet" the silicone sticks on it making impossible to remove the mastercopy without damaging the mold.

The solution is simple: dry every shapeways' piece out. But how? I do not want to damage them. What could I use? Alcohol? Acetone? I do not have any idea what to use...

Excuse my horrible English, I hope I made myself clear.

Thanks!

Hi! My name is Marisa, and I've been designing costume jewelry professionally since 2006. I have been fortunate enough to work with and learn from some truly great designers - including Kenneth Lane, Oscar de la Renta, and LouLou de la Falaise.

Lately, I've decided to go freelance while focusing on fine jewelry, and Shapeways seems like a perfect forum for me to showcase my new work, and to see all the amazing work that's being done!

My first project is a patterned Tudor-inspired ring, in sizes 5-10. It works great as a stackable ring, and also as a less conventional wedding band.

Hello all!

I would like you to feature one or both of my Twelve Pi models. The design is comprised of 12 pi symbols arranged tetrahedrally. There are four spots on it where the hooked part of three pi symbols make a really cool spiral. Each pi symbol is connected to the others at three points. I'm hoping to have good luck with it since it's a beautiful mode, and it has the double geek factor of being a mathematical design with a mathematical theme! Here are the links to the sculpture and the pendant versions. Thank you for your consideration!

This design is comprised of eight recycling symbols arranged on the faces of a stellated octahedron. I came up with the concept a long time ago when I had to create a piece of "eco art" for a fundraiser. At the time I used SketchUp to design a version that I then made out of cardboard (recycled organic cereal boxes, to be exact). With Earth Day coming, I decided to pull up the old file and redo it for 3d printing. It came out even better than I had hoped!

There are currently two sizes. The smaller was meant to be a pendant, but it ended up being too big. I currently have an even smaller version on order...it just shipped yesterday...but it's looking like it may not arrive in time for Earth Day. :-(

Anyway, the sculptures are awesome. You can find them here:

The unisex M3NG3R BRACELET consists of 3 menger sponges of the 1st iteration, 1 of the 2nd iteration and a negative imprint of the 4th iteration in the band. http://shpws.me/M4CM

Came out great from the casting! :)

This sculpture's name, Muther Vine, was inspired by James A. Moore's book series, "Seven Forges".

The Terraforma series is sculpture only.

However:
I am using 3D printed sculptures as sort of a "release format" to accompany digital music releases. I released Reb:Urth last year and this year I will release UrthHead. These are part of my "N'Urth" series of 3D printed sculptures + digital music releases.

This is a particularly tactile piece of sculpture, which has come out really well. Everyone who has seen it wants to hold and fiddle with it...

I was inspired to learn 3D modelling after stumbling across (and buying) the amazing Rajina sculpture by @Bathsheba last year. I thought - "I want to make something that cool" - so I learnt Wings3D, and here it is.

One thing that works particularly well is that the contours of the print lines actually add more complexity & texture to the surface pattern of the loops, I'm going to design for that again in the future.

Please feature my new product - as you can see, you can mix and match the colours to have a variety of products

index.php?t=getfile&id=146972&private=0

The lid doesn't interlock with the base, it is the curvature between the two parts that makes the lid sit snugly in position.

Here is the link to the product page - http://shpws.me/M3Fl - there are links on that page to order the lid and base separately.

What do you think?

Have you wondered whether it is possible to add customization to 3d printed ceramics? Yes it is.

https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/celtic3d-content/wp-content/uploads/09192108/Quaich-customized.jpg

A "quaich" is a traditional welcome cup from Scotland. The "ch" is pronounced the same way as in Loch or a Dutch "g".

Quaichs are often made of pewter, and sometimes in silver, wood or ceramics. Quaichs are used in formal occasions, perhaps as a cup to make a toast in someone's honour, and given as gifts to mark significant events such as a retirement, or like a trophy, for winning an award.

Designing the quaich was iterative, from paper sketches I modelled the rough shape and proportions in my 3d software (Blender) and printed the model in PLA plastic on my own fused-filament printer. This led to some tweaks to the proportions to look better and fit the hand more comfortably. The PLA prototype also showed that the customizable area would work better in the centre of the bowl as the low height and curvature of the model would make it difficult to see the detail on the outside of the bowl.

With the form and proportions worked out, a first test print in ceramics was ordered. The result was even better than I anticipated.

The last step was to set-up the customization and re-order copies with custom image files applied. Making reference to the design guide for porcelain, I limited the choices to the light glazes so that smaller details can still be seen.

The quaich can be customized and ordered from my Shapeways shop and there are links to it from my main website at Celtic3d.

Happy with the result.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Gear Tower Clock is a free-standing clock mechanism. Due to some mechanical-engineering magic, the gear tower stands tall and does not topple. A previous version was hand cranked and it has an hour and a minute hand. This version also has a seconds hand, and it is motor-driven.

Had these printed a bit ago really but I had been too busy to take pictures and finish customizing stuff in my shop, work, new ideas, etc........ Anyway here are some images of the complete works of my 8 Gothic Coaster designs.

These are the normal designs:

These require or are at least designed to have a 3" Plexiglass/glass insert in addition to the coaster:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/26QGA6NSE
https://www.shapeways.com/product/GNL8DR622
https://www.shapeways.com/product/RRJC6WBJK

Also for added measure, because I didn't have this in a previous thread, here is a Gothic Egg I designed and printed:
index.php?t=getfile&id=144955&private=0

https://www.shapeways.com/product/VXHAXVWNN

I have been inspired mostly by gothic cathedrals and rose windows since I think they are quite beautiful. The designs may be similar in look to many real windows but they are still very much my own design. I know that coasters aren't really in high demand especially at 3D printed prices but I thought it would be a fun exercise really. Hopefully in the near future I will finish my customizable version of the coaster designs.

The hardest time I had really was with creating 8 separate designs for the coasters that I liked. Also in making the Egg I had a hard time creating the design on a curved surface then creating an inner shell and making it a solid. I did a fair job in Sketchup but it does lack a lot of features of more professional suites which I am delving into. Up until about a couple weeks ago all of my designs were created solely using SketchUp. However, recently I have been branching into learning the program Rhinoceros and the two designs I am waiting to get back from the printers have been modeled in Rhinoceros.

Anyway thats it for now I guess. Getting late where I am.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to shapeways, and forums in general, but have finished a project I've been working for use with the latest Samsung Gear VR headset.

During normal operation, the headset is plugged into the wall charger in order to charge the phone during use. The device gets very warm due to this, and eventually gets uncomfortable during use for some people.

Basically a replacement for the current front cover, this fan cover splits its power from the wall charger to both the fan and the headset to allow the phone to charge (fast charging is possible if the correct charger is used).

It's made to be used with a $10 blackberry usb male Y cable, and an 80mm/5vdc fan that I had, and is readily available for less than $5.

It all fits together really well, but I'm not sure it's necessarily a problem that needs solved. Just thought I'd share to see what everyone thinks.

Thanks for your time!

I wanted to make a quad in N scale (1/160) for a long time, but it took me a long time to find the right material thicknesses. This model is very tiny but actually looks like the prototype, all thanks to the wonders of 3D printing. I can not believe something like this can be mass produced fully assembled by conventional means.

I am developing aerodynamic multirotor frames for FPV drone racing for quite some time. I also love to compete in these contests, and I am quite successful (more info here). Aerodynamic drag should be minimized when you want to go fast, therefore I came up with this design:

https://youtu.be/no3FbcdH4LE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6I8i4Hk2J0

It is printed from from blue strong & flexible plastic and works really nicely!

This project is again open source, here are the stl files:
http://william.thielicke.org/multirotors/derbe_evo_v97.zip

(something is wrong with the shapeways website at the moment, I can't make my designs public...)

Cheers,
