| Should Shapeways accept Bitcoin?[ 11 vote(s) ] |
| 1. | Yes | 1 / 9% | | 2. | No | 10 / 91% |
With the rising usership of Bitcoin, and the progressiveness and openness of 3D printing itself, I feel that it would not only be a huge marketing boon to Shapeways as a 3D printing service, but it would also create a newfound convenience for the users themselves. I think that the Bitcoin-using community and the Shapeways-using community have a sizeable overlap and I feel that it would be good for everyone if such methods were implemented.

now with most shops we want to get our name out in the world but when we say we use Shapeways as our printer for our designs we get questions about what it is. now i would love to have Shapeways produce a description card that we shop owners could use when demonstrating project ideas as well as have a shape way logo that we can use on or logos like "produced by Shapeways" or "Shapeways the future starts here" just some type of image that we can use to get people to visit our shop and also explain where we produce the 3d models from.

I've set up several of my models with the variants technique from the Shapeways labs to allow customers to buy single models or multiple on a sprue. As suggested I have made the variants invisible to the public but still available to buy.
EG http://www.shapeways.com/model/876944/1-200-lippisch-li-p-04 -108.html?li=productBox-search
I've added one of these to my cart and I notice that I get the message 'this model is no longer publicly available" displayed instead of any meaningful image of the model. If I was buying somebody else's model I would find this very off-putting.
Is there anyway to make the variants option more cart-friendly please?
Thanks,
Nick H.

I just received an SLS part from an engineering firm that is glass-filled nylon and I'm impressed: stiff, even finish, very functional, dye-able.
We also use Shapeways for 1-4 parts but you don't have quite the materials I can access at more traditional rapid-proto services.
So...offer the GF nylon and you get more of our prototyping quantities. And cheap/functional/detailed parts are always a good combo.

Hi Shop Owners,
You may have seen this blog post today: http://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/1735-3D-Printed-Refie f-Join-Us-in-Helping-the-Hurricane-Sandy-Relief-Efforts-This -Thursday.html
While our website was down last week, we had a few conversations via Twitter about donating their markups towards Hurricane Sandy relief. We love the idea, and decided that Shapeways will be donating part of our revenue on Thursday the 6th of November to the Red Cross. (Thanks
Michiel Cornelissen for starting the wave!)
We invite you to join us on Thursday by pledging to donate your markups for the day to Sandy relief. How you choose to donate is up to you.
We will supercharge your efforts: by tagging your products "Sandy Relief," not only will you be pledging to donate your markups, you will secure a spot on the Shapeways homepage as we'll be featuring those products from Thursday to Sunday.
Of course, participation is completely voluntary.
Any questions or comments, I'm happy to answer.
Best,
Natalia

Some of my models.....which have been printed many many times are now being rejected.
One of my regular customers just sent me this PM
I just got an e-mail from Shapeway saying that the 5/8 rod ends in 1/8 scale cannot be done in the material selected. I have ordered and received two or three orders of these rod ends in the past year and I love them, they're perfect. The e-mail said to contact you about this problem. Can you help because I'm stumped as to what to do. There must be a mistake.
I know the kit prints......the parts are in no way fragile, they are almost a solid block of material.......I have printed out similar parts that were half the size of these particular rodends (1/4" to be exact)......I know the mesh is clean it is generated by a high end CAD package which has always created a clean STL file......
I have hundreds of model kits listed on the Shapeways site......I really cannot afford the time running around and chasing these "phantom" problems.....
Is there any way we could flag certain models to tell Shapeways to print it no matter what their checking software tells them.....If there is a problem and the customer complains then the refund could be taken out of MY Acount, that way Shapeways does not have to eat the cost of a bad part??

The shops images tutorial says images should be 700x519, but now in the edit mode there is a new text that says images should be 674 x 501.
I just uploaded a series of images a few days ago at 700x519 and did not notice the new text until today.
Which resolution should it be, and what happens to the images I've already uploaded at the wrong size?

Hi, I've been thinking about doing a crowdfunding campaign to fund my next robot hand design. I've run into the biggest hidden costs, which is the international shipping costs.
I originally thought that I could just send the rewards to the funders by putting their address in as the shipping address. Shapeways informed me though that the shipping address has to be in the same country as the billing address. So the UK is covered for me, but nothing else.
I then found out about the gift vouchers that shapeways offers. Now with this I can give the funders the amount that they pledged in a gift voucher. I would prefer it very much if the vouchers could only be redeemed at my shop, or on a single product. I know that someone who pledged is unlikely to change their mind at the last minute, but I'd prefer to know how much money I'll eventually have at the end of the campaign and not when the money comes back via shapeways.
So is there anyway to limit a voucher for only one shop or product?
Btw I know that I can get savings with WSF if the density is over 10%, however the cost per item saved does not make up for having to ship the items twice. It would also mean a lot of work at my end, that I'd rather pay a little to avoid.

| "Send Message" link appears broken [message #49081] Tue, 29 May 2012 15:42 UTC |
|
|
On shop pages there is a "Send Message" hyperlink on the right side of the shop pages that a customer can use to send the shop owner an email. The problem is that this does not look like a hyperlink, so customers may not find it if they want to email a shop owner to find more about a product. This can result in lost sales.
This should be changed to look like the other hyperlinks on the shop pages. It should be changed to be blue in color like the other links. It should also change to have an underline when the mouse pointer is over it, as other links behave.
I think this should be a high priority change as it effects customer sales.
Best Regards

Could we please have a more linear image order? This includes the '3D View' and 'Shapeways Computer Generated Image' appearing before or after ALL the images. Not as it currently does after the first two. I feel items looks extremely cluttered on the page, especially if I upload several types of photos (i.e. Renders, prints & painted prints) which should be grouped together and they currently appear in a totally random order. I don't think the default image has to necessarily be the first in the row of images below the main photo. It should appear in the order it was uploaded... Or better yet, would you be able to allow the shop owner to customise the order in which the images appear?
Thanks!

I have two sections called "Widget" and "Widget (smaller)". There are 5 parts in Widget and 4 parts in "Widget (smaller)".
But when you go to the <a href="http://www.shapeways.com/shops/bathsheba?section=Widget">Widget</a> section you see all 9 models.
I imagine this is happening because Widget is a substring of "Widget (smaller)".
Please fix, thanks!

Hello,
I'm just starting to build a shop, so I've only sold a few models. I sold three models in November and December, for a grand total of $6 in payments. I know that doesn't get paid out until I reach $30 in sales.
Sometime last week my "pending payments" jumped to $12, but I have no indication of a new sale being made. I haven't received any email, and my order summary does not list any new sales in January or February.
Is there any simple explanation for this, or is this a service question?
Thanks.

Hey, I'm new to the site, and community. I was just wondering if there was a reason why GBP/£/Pound wasn't an option when setting the currency for the shop.
I think it would be a good idea as it would allow UK shoppers to have a clearer indication on the price of products.

I'm in the process of setting up a shop with more than 200 models. It's a fairly laborious process that requires model by model alterations and settings (please add some group manipulation options, Shapeways!).
Sending literally hours doing this, I worried about what would happen if Shapeways suffered server failure/file corruption loss. So, I'm curious
(1) how redundant the Shapeways databanks are, and,
(2) is there a way for a user to download an entire "shop backup file", that, in the event of catastrophic data loss, could be used to re-establish the shop, models and settings.

I am having a bit of an issue editing text for my models.
It appears to me that there are /sort/ of two sections - one for a title and one for the body of the text? or are there two sections here?
I sometimes click on the existing description and see that I can edit here, WHILE the "body" of the text seems to remain static and not editable. This area remains a sort of blue color I think.
Anyway, should I be getting ALL the text in one box? Like if I delete everything in the box I am in will it remove everything? Or are there two sections here one for title and one for body of text?
I've found this confusing and can't tell if I should be logged in somewhere else to edit the body of the text, if something is wrong with my system somehow or what is going on.
Thanks for any thoughts.

I am having problems using the "upload new model" (or replace model or whatever) option on my design's page. I am trying to upload a new model that is 50% of the size of the original and I can't tell whether the upload is working or not.
The price seems to stay the same and the image seems to stay the same and I can't figure out how to know what is going on. Is this just me?
is there somewhere that I can review the name of my models' FILE NAMES that I have uploaded? I can't see how I am supposed to make sure that the files are correctly uploaded if I don't see the name of the file.
ALSO, I have a whole series of models that start with the same word - like "MyModel_whatever I want to say.stl". Right now I am getting emails from Shapeways that say "We are sorry, your model MyModel had a problem...". But I have no way of knowing if this was MyModel_cute_pony.stl or if it was MyModel.purple_unicorn.stl or if it was - well anyway, I can't tell which model Shapeways had a problem with...
Help?

For me it would be a big help if this sort criteria could be split in two topics:

Update Date: ordered by "Last file upload"
in that way I can sort out done updates.
