When inputting shop descriptions I'm finding some strange things going on. I have no problems using inline CSS and HTML in the description and when I save, the database saves the field as I've entered it and displays it as I've entered it on the item page.

The issue shows up when you go BACK to the edit screen and try to edit your description. If you are using some simple descriptions then you won't likely have any issues. If you use <div>s then I'm finding that they are stripped out when loaded into the text field. If you use empty <span> tags to serve as image containers then the closing </span>s all get moved to the END of the text field totally screwing up your layout. I'm also seeing weird stuff like stuff getting shoved inside of <ul> elements if I have those.. really weird stuff, and highly frustrating if you have to make edits to your descriptions.

:(

Here's what I mean by an "advance shop description"

As a designer that uses multiple materials for assembly kits so that my customers don't have to paint items, I'm a big fan of using the addmultiple URL API. the Labs section has a neat tool for creating these urls for you.

HOWEVER, I'm guessing that the "style" of the item IDs has changed. If the item uses any letters in it's ID then the API barfs and crashes. if the ID is just numbers then you're good.

This one works:

This one does not:

Hello everyone,

Since we have started our activities at Shapeways we have continuously increased our portfolio.
Please take a look at our shop: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/rail-n-scale

Since the 'website upgrade' of Shapeways we are suffering from many annoying bugs.
Bugs that are becoming of such level that it is becoming quite a hassle to upload pictures et cetera.
This together with the already archaic way of organizing a webshop results in a less then adequate layout and sorting.

From the beginning we made the very clever decision of creating a separate 'webshop'.

Please take a look at this website: http://railnscale.com/

Only creating the proper information and arranging pictures and instructions around our products proofs to be far less time consuming at our Wordpress website then here at SW. Also the flexibility is fasr superior over the SW shop.

We noticed that the amount of views at http://railnscale.com/ is also far more then what our SW shop generates. This is especially true for Non-American viewers.

We use forums to 'advertise' our products. In these messages we always refer to both http://railnscale.com/ and http://www.shapeways.com/shops/rail-n-scale

As SW suggests that an attractive shop is key for success. Why are the facilities so poor? Why is it near impossible to get a proper shop? Why is the search functionality poor? Why is there a feed (that's seems to be broken since the 'update')? And why is English the only option here?

Best regards,
Maurice

Hello,

I have been playing around with my shop and wanted to know if there are more options in the inventory view?

The main things I would like are the ability to see more than 12 products at a time (I have 7 pages of products, but imagine some people have a lot more) and also the ability to filter by shop section.

I like being able to 'order' products, but without the shop section filter, it is hard to get a good view of how each section would look unless each section has its own range of numbers (ie one section is 1-20, the next is 21-40) but this would have its own difficulties too.

Hey how do I change the "more from" designs that are being displayed on my model pages as seen below ?

index.php?t=getfile&id=89375&private=0

First it was the most popular designs that were displayed I think but not these.

I see events being recorded to my Google Analytics, some events I've seen are "PurchaseReceipt" and "AddToCart". However, I cannot find events for order completion - which seems to be the logical conclusion to "AddToCart".

I may be mistaken, but it also seems fairly trivial to add in eCommerce event tracking. Would appreciate some feedback!

Hi Shapeways crew,
I wanted to make a comment on how long it takes for the 'Generate Renders' button to become enabled after I upload a model. A lot of times it takes a half hour or so for it to be enabled. This makes me absolutely nuts because I just spent a long time making a nice model for Shapeways, uploaded it and the VERY LAST thing I need to do before I send a link to the customer is to wait a zillion years for that darn button to show up so I can orient the picture. Can you guys speed that up please?

Thanks,
Matt

Hello,

I have seen a few products and shop descriptions that contain links to the shops' Facebook/instagram etc with icons - i.e. there is a Facebook icon that links to that persons/shops page.

Can someone tell me how to do this? I have found html for adding a link which is nice, but would prefer to see the icons.

thanks

In order to reach a broader audience and provide a richer experience, I am developing a stand alone website for my products. This will enable me to provide 'how to' guides, video, etc...

In order to reduce my workload, I want to upload and maintain models in shapeways whilst my webpage pulls all updated products via a 'wordprees widget'. Coupling this with woocommerce, I want to offer my customers the option to pay in crypto-coins (e.g. bitcoins).

I have the majority of the web page design completed, the e-commerce site runs however I am having some trouble passing my shapeways shop data through.

Does shapeways support 3rd party website stores? If yes, can someone please point me towards some info on how to integrate a 3rd party shopfront with my already existing shop.

Regards,

Shayne

Hi,

I'm using a product set of model (parts) A and B, which together form the complete model.
Model part A can be only printed in FUD, while Model part B can be printed in both FD (default) and FUD.

Using the product set html code from the labs page, I noticed that the script (addMultiple) always will pick the default material when adding each model to the shopping cart.

Is there any possibility to specify the material?
I tried adding &materialid=60 (or 61) already (also tried &materialid[]=60), but this didn't work.

It would be great when this is possible, otherwise I have no other possibility then to write a complicated 'specification' like 'click here to add Model part A to your cart', then click 'Buy Now' after you clicked here to add Model part B to your cart...' to explain how to add the full FUD version (more expensive obviously) to the cart. Any other ideas?

The current html code included on the page is ('behind' 'Add set to cart'):
https://www.shapeways.com/cart/addMultiple?model_id[]=2921262&model_id[]=1724664&

Hey guys!

It's that time of year when we all wait WAY TOO LONG to order gifts...so in order to prep you, we've created a whole page of the holiday shipping times for all materials.

Be sure to share these deadlines with your customers - a little social media reminder the day before its too late to order metals for instance.

You can always see our best estimate of your order's delivery date directly in your cart, or use the dates below for our marketplace materials.

I am planning a shapeways shop to open early in the new year - subject to the availability of porcelain.

I found today that there are a number of apps such as 'Easy Social Shop' that (from what I understand) create a shop on facebook that links to an existing online shop on sites such as Amazon etc

Is there currently functionality or are there plans in progress to have integration with social media or something similar to this? I imagine one of the challenges with shapeways is that much of the shapeways community is made up of designers, and I am sure most shopowners here want to reach a wider community than just other designers.

I know this comes up periodically but I can't stress how much I really want bulk upload and bulk editing tools for shop management.

I've been editing models and my time break down works a bit like this.

Took me a couple hours to set up a template.
about an hour to make 50 models
2 and a half hours to run them through Netfabb and fix errors
uploading them? 5 days and I'm half done.

this is really a barrier to effective shop management. instead of a roll out it results in a trickle out at best. And frankly most of the time I'd rather not upload stuff if I don't want to order it for myself. what's the point of taking the time to upload them? I've already told two or three other affiliates that bulk tools were a necessity. Ironically pinshape and amazon took me seriously on the phone.

NOTE: I've been told this can be done through the API. if it can then just make a tool already if the API is so darned effective.

It would make setting up rings so much easier if we had a duplicate model button in our models sections.

Everything in each ring size is exactly the same (other than possibly price in precious metals)

It would save hours of setup. I am holding off on uploading rings in hopes Shapeways will offer this.

I went to the Affiliate Summit conference in NYC this week to see what it was all about. I think Affiliate Marketing could help shop owners sell 3D Prints. Affiliates push traffic to your shop through blogs, banner ads on landing pages and websites. The Affiliate only gets paid if you actually sell a print. I am wondering what other people think of this idea? Below is a link to the biggest sponsor of the event and one of the largest Affiliate Marketing networks.

Since I'm very often give some critical comments I have also to transport a positive story.

Recently I had an issue with another printing provider:
- Case 1
- The customer claimed that something was missing and documented that via pics
- Other provider's service desk claimed that that was caused by a wrong (!!!!) 3d mesh
- So no refund and no reprint possible
Case 2
- Claim about printing quality documented via pictures
- So far no solution

To be honest the politic from Shapeways is more customer friendly and straight forward:
- the manual checks ensure that the customer gets printed what he sees
- although the rejections are painful for us designers and also for the buyer it ensures that
- if there's a misprint so far I never have heard that the customer does not get a refund (has myself the situation some days ago)
- if there is a design problem Shapeways disables the selling for this material and asks the designer for a correction

When I drag up or down in the rotating view, the axis of rotation comes out of the image plane. When that happens, the rotation changes from a convenience to a nuisance. It would be better to keep the rotation axis vertical in the image plane, or else allow the user to stop the rotation and turn the object every which way with the mouse.

Having so much 3D content, it's only a matter of time until the Shapeways store will establish presence in the virtual reality universe. With both Oculus and Sony making so much noise preparing to migrate everyone to VR, I can realistically see myself browsing the store on my PS6 for a new pair of hiking boots to print.

I'm wondering if there's already such a project in progress, and if not, then perhaps setting up an open source project repository would get some developers interested. Just a suggestion!

Thanks!

I've just opened my Shapeways shop and so far I've been making role-playing counters for Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop games.
Right now there are only 6 models (with another 6 soon to be available):

Berian Models

The categories that I chose for my role-playing counters are "Games" and "Miniatures". They seem fairly good, but I'm not totally satisfied, especially by the Miniatures category.

I noticed that dice (by "Made by Wombat" mainly) are a very popular item: I was wondering if there's any chance of adding a Role-Playing subcategory to Games, or maybe a Miniatures sub-category for counters and such.

Of course I realize there might not be enough role-playing/counter models on Shapeways to justify creating these categories!
Just asking :)

Hello,

Been wondering if anyone is doing dropshipping with Shapeways? Eg selling on Amazon or Ebay, and specifying the customer address as the shipping address?

As I understand from my reasearch, this is only possible if the billing and the shipping address is in the same country.
( this rule is due to the international rules Creditcard companies and Paypal use regarding VAT)

Also, one problem mentioned here ( https://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/726-expand-your-mark et-to-sites-such-as-etsy-and-ebay.html) is that the markup may be revealed to the customer. Perhaps this could be circumvented by ordering with an account that is not the creator/uploaded on shapeways.

Just tried adding my items on Amazon, but it requests a so called GTIN number that are very expensive. Does SW provide one perhaps? Smile

Can we request an exemption for 3d printed stuff from Amazon? What are your experiences?

PS I ended up buying a 1000 on ebay for 15 bucks. Legit and works Smile This gtin seems like a mafia charging exorbitant fees.

Hey guys,

As you probably know, we feature a designer every week on our homepage in the Designer Spotlight section and also an interview on the blog.

I'd love to feature more of your designs and I thought a short video would be a great way to showcase them! We'll be using these on the blog, and as category headers - like say for "Miniatures" or "Jewelry".

Here's my 30 second example that took five minutes to make:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJiCWUAFqJc&feature=youtu .be

Here's the foolproof plan to make your video:

Sit in front of your computer, set up your video, smile and press RECORD!
Introduce yourself and what you do
Show us your favorite design and tell us why you like it
Invite us to check it out in your shop!
Upload to YouTube and post it here

That's it. 30 seconds should do it, short and sweet!

Some tips:

You can use PhotoBooth on your Mac or Windows Movie Maker on your PC.

Sit in a quiet place so we can hear you - I chose to sit against a white wall, but you can show us your studio or office too!

Have your model ready to show and slowly show us

Smile!

Check out my video as an example, then submit your own here and await fame Smile

Can't wait to show off you and your designs!

Natalia

Is there a reason this option isn't available yet?
I know there can be issues with generic designs (designers might not want their files to be pirated/proliferated) but there should be no problem for personalized co-creator files.
Anyway, I think Shapeways should offer this option before someone else does. Eventually this will be a huge market, comparable to the app market for cell phones Shocked Very Happy

I was looking through my Google Analytics for my Shapeways shop and trying to see if I could trace the origins of the Search traffic that had landed there . It says I need to have Webmaster Tools enabled on the site, but the verification program for this involves uploading a file and I don't have the access to do this.

Is there another way of doing this ?

now with most shops we want to get our name out in the world but when we say we use Shapeways as our printer for our designs we get questions about what it is. now i would love to have Shapeways produce a description card that we shop owners could use when demonstrating project ideas as well as have a shape way logo that we can use on or logos like "produced by Shapeways" or "Shapeways the future starts here" just some type of image that we can use to get people to visit our shop and also explain where we produce the 3d models from.

When setting up my shop account, I have entered my shop url as : http://www.shapeways.com/shop/(MyShopName). I get a warning that says: Valid characters are a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and "-_". Apparently the system is not accepting my url. How do I correct that? Thanks

I've set up several of my models with the variants technique from the Shapeways labs to allow customers to buy single models or multiple on a sprue. As suggested I have made the variants invisible to the public but still available to buy.
EG http://www.shapeways.com/model/876944/1-200-lippisch-li-p-04 -108.html?li=productBox-search

I've added one of these to my cart and I notice that I get the message 'this model is no longer publicly available" displayed instead of any meaningful image of the model. If I was buying somebody else's model I would find this very off-putting.

Is there anyway to make the variants option more cart-friendly please?

Thanks,
Nick H.

Would be nice to see one in the near future to give the shapeways shops a little bit of extra social sharing power !

If it doesn't look good it's not designed by us.

I just received an SLS part from an engineering firm that is glass-filled nylon and I'm impressed: stiff, even finish, very functional, dye-able.
We also use Shapeways for 1-4 parts but you don't have quite the materials I can access at more traditional rapid-proto services.
So...offer the GF nylon and you get more of our prototyping quantities. Smile And cheap/functional/detailed parts are always a good combo.

Since we are able to choose "public" for not-for-sale items, maybe we should be able to arrange how both for-sale and not-for-sale are displayed in our shop front ?
