This Universal Equinoctial Ring Dial 2 is an improved version of a previous one (web, forum).
Now it's fully modular so you can purchase individual parts as replacements or in case of future revisions. This also has allowed to stiffen the movements of the parts because no clearance is needed.
The slider part has been fully remodelled and a little the central bar. The eyelet now has two internal tubes to avoid loosening. The two rings have only changed in the hinge zones.
As in the previous version, the model was dyed with cold tea and the marks painted with black ink. The slider and some zones of the other parts are more yellow because they weren't inked.

For those of you with Ultimate Desk Toys, or those who will have them soon--some new accessories for you to drool over.
First, there is the unique outline globe which balances from the upper perch of the Ultimate Desk Toy's stand:

This piece has been offered for a while, but only on faith of my design abilities since I hadn't had the chance to print it yet. Now that I have it, I am considering offering it in a larger stand-alone design because I love the look produced by printing only the shoreline and continental shelves of the continents:

Then, there is the brand new Short Floater/Spinner which spins beautifully on the Ultimate Desk Toy's upper perch:

As shown in the teaser, the Short Floater/Spinner can also spin while dangling from a neodymium magnet (not included). My record so far is 3 minutes and 13 seconds of spin, but surely you can do better! The careful positioning of the center of mass allows the spinner to hold a significant list while spinning, and to convert desk vibrations into both rocking and rotating motion when dangling from a magnet, similar to a rattleback.

The second stand appearing in the photos is a bronze glossy copy demonstrating the Ultimate Desk Toy's lefty-friendly configuration. If it's going to be custom-made, it might as well be perfectly matched to you!

The stand sells for $35 customised and shipped, or together with a toy of your choice for $50. Toys are $25 a piece.

Hey guys, my fruitybowl test print has arrived today, I'm really happy with the detail, the weight of the fruit slightly deforms it in places so I think I'll either need to switch to white detail for the stiffness or add some structural ribs for additional support, havent got my camera atm so a few moby shots will have to suffice for now. Cheers.

I was playing around with morphing a cube, and I kept making these great fin shapes.
So I said to myself, "That fin would look great on a rocket!".
A few iterations later and I had a rocket.

It's red because the rocket cost under the $25 minimum charge and I really wanted to get my first item printed with Shapeways, so I got it coloured. I'm glad that I did.
I did think about putting in a little stair case, but I wanted to keep the design as simple and minimal as possible.

Hi Shapeways fans,
Hollow Skewb is a cube-shaped twisty puzzle that is completely hollow inside. The puzzle has the geometry of a Skewb puzzle. The puzzle is constructed by taking a Minimal Twist puzzle and adding eight shallow pyramid-shaped plugs. Frank Tiex and Carl Hoff came up with the suggestion to add plugs.
Watch the YouTube video.
Buy the puzzle from my Shapeways Shop.

This is a famous puzzle designed by Stewart Coffin 40 years ago. Wood copies must be made with great accuracy and have become sought-after collectors items selling for several hundred dollars. This leads to the current state of affairs where many people have never even seen this excellent puzzle. I had never seen one, so I exported the pieces from BurrTools and printed out a copy. Now anyone can order an inexpensive copy of this puzzle. Meanwhile serious collectors I am sure will prefer the wood versions.

Six pieces, all different, assemble into a cube with side 32mm or about 1.25 inches. The markup on this item is only 22 cents. I dyed my version in three colors for a multi-hue look where the same color doesn't touch in the final cube. You may notice, though, that this makes it (slightly) easier to solve the puzzle.

Here is a link to the model page. I plan also to make a smaller version which will be about $15.

hi all...
i got my "cell cycle style" ring in sterling-silver and WSF.

Ring by eok.gnah, on Flickr
i designed him with the brilliant cellcycle tool from n-e-r-v-o-u-s system.
i am very happy how he came out in silver.
and you can bet.. my gf is too, because she got him as a present..
it looks like "shapeways" liked the ring too, because they put up a picture of him on flickr before he was sent to me!!!

This arrived some time ago, just got around to posting pic's. It was a custom pendant designed for a company. 11.5cms in height, printed in SWF. This took me quite a while to do and the "swirly bits" on the text are quite flexible!

Hey Shapers
Here are 2 pics of my Coasters of iPhone Apps in Full Color that arrived to customers.
I want to point out that the white is back ! meaning shapeways apparently listens to the community and looks like have perfected the wax coating process so the model's white color doesn't turn into off-white after waxing.
This is a very important issue - with a real white background all shades and colors look much more amazing.

This is awesome!!! it finally came in the mail!!! i almost couldnt handle it how slowly that UPS guy came to my house...Gee Wiz!! it looks really good! and fits my finger i measured. its a size 10 BUT i made it so the teeth hang over the actually ring part. so it kinda like...bites your finger i guess and digs into your skin a little. (doesn't hurt) but i thought it would be cool to do that. heres some pics.

My first work. Stunning service by shapeways !! After I´ve got the 3D-Prints, now I see that I have to change my construction. It´s not viewable in 3D construction. I have to learn, but it will run in future !!

I finally got around to ordering a few things, including my snowflake ring ( http://www.shapeways.com/model/68226/snowflake_tea_light_rin g__bigger_.html?gid=ug28511). This is the larger one that I made when I realized that the original wasn't going to quite fit around the tea light holder I wanted to use. I still need to put a protective coating on it - I'll probably try Future floor polish, as recommended by a Shapie elsewhere.

Absolutely marvellous-looking dice from ceramicwombat.
The thorn dice set with decader and pinwheel d6 & d20, all in gold.

And together with a non-printed regular D10 to give you an idea of the size.

Three black dice bags came with the order as well. Only the pinwheel D20 (bottom right in first picture) might need some colour so the numbers stand out a bit more.
The thorn set is polished, the pinwheel dice are not - the difference is not very remarkable.

OK, got the first prints of a bunch of my dice. Some of them have already been redesigned and the new versions ought to arrive today, but the pictures are at least close.
First, a d12 made from the compound of 5 tetrahedra. Just fine the way it is. The picture doesn't properly get across how cool things look in Alumide:

My open d20 in WSF. Also not the greatest picture.

My whole set of Rattling Bones dice. A near-success. The new ones come in today. I hope to fix the one wireframe that didn't stay free:

My 12-sided round die needs some work on the inside, have to see if I can get it to land with one face up all the time. It's fairly good at it, but not quite good enough.

And the round d8 also needs some help. Additionally, it came packed with support powder, which I'm slowly managing to get out. Poked a paperclip wire through all the pips, blowing into it, bouncing it around—word to the wise: white strong and flexible is also quite bouncy!

There's even more, but I'll wait on those and try to get the new versions up when they arrive.

So, I had a few designs I was exited to see print because I didn't know how they would turn out... And, once again, Shapeways has exceeded my expectations!
First up is the Interlocked Mobius: three double-sides mobius strips interlock with each other, inextricably intertwined:

This was a two-fold experiment: First, I wanted to figure out how to make a mobius strip in Blender. What I ended up doing was taking a cube and extruding it, then rotating the extrusion a little... then repeating until the total rotation was 180 degrees. Then I created a curve circle and applied a curve modifier to link my extruded model to the circle. A few tweaks and VOILA! A mobius-type ring. Second, I was just playing around with orienting objects in 3d space so that they would print separately. It was a huge success, and the loops are all separate from each other, though permanently intertwined. It's kind of a pointless model, but it would make a unique necklace.
My next model is a Chunky Mobius:

This happened by accident while scaling and tweaking the main component of my Interlocked Mobius. I thought it looked cool, and what do you know? It looks really cool in transparent detail! I will wash it later; there seems to be a slightly waxy coating on it, and there's a touch of detail material stuck inside, but that's to be expected since it's kind of small and hard to clean.
Finally, the pride and joy of this order, my Sun, Moon, and Stars:

As you can see, the sun is a little broken at the top, but I think it gives it character, don't you?
I carefully designed this to barely meet all the minimum thickness requirements, instead of my usual, clumsy process of modeling first, measuring later. After all, I'm hoping to sell some of my models, eventually. I gotta have a more professional attitude, huh? Enough rambling. I was a little afraid this would turn out quite fragile, considering the loops are only 1mm thick... but, it's holding together quite well.

Overall, these models were a huge success. 3d printing -- it's AWESOME! Thanks once again, Shapeways, you have one satisfied customer!
Now, if only I can hold in my impatience until my next order arrives...
