The tiny (~5mm) rubik's cube is here~ :D This product is designed by @grigr
First to say, this is a really great and fully functional miniature of the rubik's cube. But only if you have the money to afford this, time to carefully cut the sprues of the parts, trim the parts clean, patiently assembling the parts, and racing against time to glue the stickers (or sticker substitue; cut plastic ribbon in my case) with cyanoacrylate glue, then this is good for you!

index.php?t=getfile&id=154704&private=0

The first image shows the cube after assembly is almost complete. Putting the last 3 parts are slightly difficult, but yeah it works with some pressure. Did I broke any part? Yes, 3 in fact. 1 Center piece broke when I tried to insert it into the core, another center piece broke when I accidentally turned the cube on another direction when they aren't perfectly aligned. Then a corner piece broke when I tried to re assemble the cube.

When you buy the cube, you get enough parts to make 2 cubes, if you don't make any mistakes. But the problem comes when you break a center piece.. It leaves its clip in the core piece, which limits the number of times of replacing center pieces at the same core piece.

When first assembled, the cube is so stiff and needs a lot of pressure to rotate.. But after a few turns, it becomes quite smooth, as long as the sprues were trimmed correctly prior to assembly. Just make sure you don't cut corners with this cube.. Or the cube will "cut itself", which means you lose a part.

Here, you can see the cube after getting stickered. It took me around 3 hours to apply the stickers (plastic ribbon)to the completed cube.

index.php?t=getfile&id=154705&private=0

Above all, I'm very happy that the cube is actually looks realistic on figma action figures! The cube is at 1:10 scale, and figma are around 1:10 to 1:12 (?). At least I can get rare photos in which action figures are playing rubik's cube... XD

This piece is titled the "TRI-VECTOR SQUEEZE" because it's designed with a Vector Equilibrium flattened down ".618%" and wrapped within an artistic triangle. It's 1.5 inches wide, just shy of 2 inches high. This one is Rhodium Plated Polished Brass.

Hi Shapeways fans,

"Failure is always an option".

Pen Cover Puzzle is a sliding piece puzzle, more similar than the famous 14-15 puzzle then you may think. This version is wrapped around a cylinder. The idea was to have a sliding puzzle wrapped around a pen.

Unfortunately, this is a failed prototype. Tiny tolerance errors accumulate quickly with 15 pieces in a row, resulting in a puzzle that is either too loose or jammed. Also the pieces are hard to turn with your fingers, and one cannot see in a single glance whether the puzzle is solved. So back to the drawing board.

As you may know, it is impossible to swap the 14 and 15 pieces for the classical puzzle. Can it be done with this variation?

Hi Shapeways fans,

Jumble Intersect is an optical illusion suggesting two intersecting cubes. The puzzle was inspired by Dave's Diamond Shape Modification by Carl Hoff, which itself was inspired by Dave's Diamond puzzle. Both these puzzles aimed to have two intersecting 2x2x2 Rubik's Cubes, each intended to be fully functional. Unfortunately, that design did not work out, as the hidden rails got mixed up, blocking the puzzle. Jumble Intersect is a squashed version of Carl Hoff's puzzle. By squashing the design, the geometry changes into that of the Minimal Hex, and the puzzle becomes feasible. Like Minimal Hex, also Jumble Intersect has a rails mechanism, it has no core, and it is hollow at the inside. This guarantees that there can be no hidden bandaging.

A client asked me to design this ring for him and he wanted the final product on Polished Bronze or Silver.
Of course i suggested him to make this product here on Shapeways and he is very happy with the final results.

This ring is quite big and unique, with his initials on each side.

Exited to share my first try in a multi-part print of my Cavity Card design.
Thanks Shapeways for the instructions! Managed to save a little through printing them like this.

index.php?t=getfile&id=151944&private=0

I created Cavity Card after many frustrations of finding coins all over the house and the car while never having them on me when I actually needed them (I carry a minimal wallet that doesn't allow for coins, and would like to keep it slim). In my quest for finding the solution to carry coins without adding too much bulk to my wallet I came up with Cavity Card.

The idea is pretty simple... mount the Cavity Card onto any of the cards already in your wallet and you'll have just that little space for carrying a few coins, keys, or other small items.

index.php?t=getfile&id=151945&private=0

After a number of friends and colleagues asked me where I got it, I decided to open a shop on Shapeways.

What do you guys think? Any ideas on how to improve both the product and the shop?

Leon

If you've ever seen the Fresnel lenses used in lighthouses you'll know just how awesome these things are. I was at the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse recently and decided I just had to make that lens.

(The beach ball's just there because I wanted something to catch the shadows.)

I liked it enough I decided I had to make a pendant from it.

Well, technically I made two, but it's just a smaller version.

Hi Shapeways fans,

my Shapeways Sho is functionally a 2x2x2 Rubik's Cube. Its design was requested by Jet Xie. The original Gift Capsule was a bandaged puzzle, and only one segment could be taken out. Jet Xie wanted to see a puzzle where one side could be removed, similar to the 3x3x3 Treasure Chest. The solution was to add many tiny pieces inside the puzzle. This makes the puzzle function as requested, but unfortunately the turning is rather awkward.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Minimal Hex is a skeletal version of Ben Streeter's Gemstone I. It is a minimalistic puzzle in the same vein as Minimal Twist, Minimal Jumble and Minimal 7x7x7. This implementation highlights this jumbling-only geometry on a Jaap's sphere. Unlike Ben Streeter's puzzle, this version has not hidden pieces inside, so there can be no hidden bandaging.

The puzzle is a deep-cut puzzle, a simple deep-cut puzzle to be precise (" deep-cut-that-can-be-implemented-with-male/female-dovetails- without-introducing-any-additional-bandaging ").

This chopsticks helper is adorable and excellent. The eye-shaped chuck can mount many standard chopsticks with diameter of around 8mm. This was designed for the elderly at first, but might be useful for the people who loves eating with chopsticks.

This is my dice/cube pendant with numbers from one to six which arrived today, made from brass. A video is also available: http://shpws.me/LYR8
Shapeways customer service was very kind; they asked me via e-mail about a first print which didn't really look as it was intented (it was slightly warped, they sent me photographs before shipping that first version to me), so I had the possibility to choose if it was to be re-printed, which I preferred. I am very happy with that high level of customer service!
By the way, it does roll really well, so it can actually be used as a dice—I tested that. I like it very, very much! <3

3 spinning tops arrived and they all work wonderfully. I'll be ordering more soon. Let me know what you think.

Voronoi Spinning Top
Item Page : http://shpws.me/KLzL
The Voronoi top impressed be even with out the extra benefit of being air powered. This top is the most comfortable of the 3 and spins impressively. I absolutely love the way it spins, it has a great balance point that makes it oscillate smoothly around the table until it finally settles and stands upright, almost motionless. Very happy with this one.
index.php?t=getfile&id=142787&private=0

Dust Devil Spinning Top
Item Page : http://shpws.me/LUUb
The Dust Devil is an air powered top with an impressive amount of speed and control. I have designed several air powered spinning tops and this one is by far the most responsive. You can guide it around the table with your breath and get it humming with speed. It makes a wonderful noise when it's going fast. It's an addicting desk toy and will keep you busy for hours. Enjoy!
index.php?t=getfile&id=142785&private=0

Super Star Spinning Top
Item Page : http://shpws.me/KB1O
The Super Star is a beautiful piece weather it is spinning or not. Blowing on this one at a 45 degree angle, on the left side as it spins clock wise will get it to accelerate. It spins nicely on the palm of your hand too.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Krystian's Square is an idea by Krystian Wilisowski. It is arguably the second easiest scramblable twisty puzzle, the easiest one being a 2x1x1, see also this classification by TheMaoiSha. The square can be slid sideways in two ways, enabling a 180-degrees rotation. Krystian's Square is a flat variation to Krystian's Cube.

Hello everybody.

Today I am finally finished with a product I had planed and started prototyping a long time ago.
I want to introduce a mutlipart ring. It represents a motorcycle engine with various details, that is assembled by two parts:
1. A base ring
2. A cap

http://www.engineers-jewelry.de/mediapool/140/1405487/resources/38102765.png

The pieces are assembled with industrial hex bolts and nuts M1.6. Since I create jewelry for engineers, mechanics and people interested in technical things, I chose to design pieces that use industrial steel bolts and nuts to give them a unique character.
As far as I can tell, the use of such screws with jewelry has infact been done before. I only recall one shapeways product that did not use precious metal though. So despite not being the first, this approach seems still pretty unconventional.

Now to the ring itself:

Design
This bike engine ring has a whole lot of cooling fins, an ignition plug, push rods and the polished cap. Real bike engines are in general cast parts without surface finish, which is why a polished or galvanised cap is bolted on for a precious design. All Choppers like Harleys and other showbikes have such engines. In the case of the ring, a contrast color can also be selected by choosing a different color from the ring. To make it realistic, I sell the ring in raw silver, with the cap being available in various polished materials.
http://www.engineers-jewelry.de/mediapool/140/1405487/resources/38138393.png
In order to make the ring not to big and heavy above the finger, I cut as many cooling fins as possible into the ring band section. This streched the appearence of the part without making the actual object "on top of the ring" to high, while at the same time creating the illusion of an tall, complete cylinder.

Assembly
The ring is assembled by sinking the nuts into the base and having the neat looking bolts be visible on top of the cap. M1.6 x 6 bolts and M1.6 nuts are used.

More pictures and info on this ring here on shapeways and my webpage.

Here one more picture of the ring on quality root wood:
http://www.engineers-jewelry.de/mediapool/140/1405487/resources/38104350.png

On a side note I will add more designs of this specific part of jewelry design with bolts in the near future. So if you like this idea follow me, and you will see even fancier constructions with moving parts packed into small jewelry pieces.

Less than a week after my command I was pleased to discover my work in reality.

So I done a video and linked it on my shop.

Clips works well. Parts seem rather resistants but I prefer to propose a larger series (150%) to reduice the idea of fragility.

index.php?t=getfile&id=134677&private=0Sorry its late, but absolutely over the moon with my first print from shapeways.
I decided to make my own bow tie for a new years eve dinner. The dress code was black tie so I thought I would create my own bow tie for fun and to create an icebreaker.
The tie was a success and got everybody talking. I, along with everybody else thought the quality was fantastic.
I have had loads of other ideas for wearable accessories which I have began to draw up.

Thank you Shapeways for a great service which has produced a great product.

Regards

Lewis
