Wave Ball Pendant 25mm - Polished brass. From a different angle it looks completely different. It's surprisingly very rigid for a shape that doesn't have supporting connections between the inside and outside like the storm ball.

It took a long time, but finally they're here.

It started when visiting Taiwan some years ago, I discovered the wonderful antique coins and charms sold at some market stalls.
I should point out that some of these may be fake - please understand that I don't actually care; to me they are essentially slugs of metal with pictures of dragons on.

So after getting familiar with shapeJS for designing coin-like tokens, it occurred to me that I could make my own design with a nice big dragon on.
I was already wanting to make a token in a Reuleaux pentagon, and the dragon seemed like a good fit.
I used Inkscape, which seems quite powerful, and is free - if a little clunky in places.
Getting a design took some time, and the detail required did make the computer chug a bit a times, but eventually I was happy.

It was at this point I realised I needed something for the back. Duh!
I could have duplicated it, or put some text there or something, but it didn't feel right. So I made a another image for the back, inspired by the related mythological creature of the Fenghuang, or "Chinese phoenix". It might not quite match all the traditional Chinese details, but hey, it's my design.

So then the question is - which material?

I'd originally designed for Stainless steel, but I was so pleased with it that I also ordered in raw bronze, for a higher resolution version.
Cunningly, I used a thinner core for this, which trims quite a bit off the cost.
Unfortunately, the bronze coin was then cancelled from the order. The bronze guys seem much more finicky about minimum spec than the steel guys, who can print anything.
Anyway, at that point the black friday offer came along; I ended up ordering raw and polished bronze to take advantage of this.

So here they are. Left to right: Stainless steel, raw bronze, polished bronze.
index.php?t=getfile&id=82148&private=0
index.php?t=getfile&id=82149&private=0

They all have their own characteristics. Most people I show them to think the polished version is the most luxurious. Well, it is the most expensive.

But I think the steel version has a certain something about it. Here it is with some of the rest of my collection of dragon coins.

The steel coin with some of my collection of large oriental coins and tokens.
index.php?t=getfile&id=82140&private=0

I've put all three versions in my shop. They're different mainly in the thickness of the core, but there are a few tweaks to the design to pass the screening process, and the polished version is slightly larger.

I got two new elements to add to my collection of periodic table jewelry.

The first is Iron, printed in polished grey stainless steel. I'm very happy with it.

index.php?t=getfile&id=81912&private=0
index.php?t=getfile&id=81913&private=0

The second pendant is Platinum printed in polished silver. Not satisfied with the polishing job they did on this, there are lines and marks all over it, similar models (silver and copper) I've had printed have had a much more uniform polish to them.

I received today a nice and bigger version of my invertible object with moiré effect.
With the new price model it is easier to make objects stronger without impact on price.

Hi,

the arrival of the new models lighted up the grey and rainy day. And now it's perfect.
One of the models is already in my new shop WILTD and the other will follow.

I've got some Flowers:
index.php?t=getfile&id=81497&private=0
I think I'm going to pick them up and make some Pendants out of them!

Do you know the problem of finding the loose end of a ball of yarn? This was the inspiration for this balls:
index.php?t=getfile&id=81498&private=0

And the glass perfectly fits into the groove of the wired frame.
index.php?t=getfile&id=81499&private=0

So, all in all, it made my day.

What do you think?

Best
Andrea

Hi Shapeways fans,

Oskar's Cubes was mass-produced in metal by Bits and Pieces. Now it is sold out. Fans keep asking for this puzzle, and vintage samples are hard to find. Therefore I made this 3D-printed metallic plastic version of the puzzle. As Tony Fisher's had already demonstrated with his 3D-printed Astrolabacus version, 3D-printing is not just for stand-alone productions or preludes to mass-production, but also for resurrection of forever-sold-out mass products.

Watch the YouTube video.
Buy the puzzle at my Shapeways Shop.
Read more at the Non-Twisty Puzzles Forum
Check out the photos below.

Enjoy!

Three models of Dupin Cyclides, two in experimental full color plastic, the last one in full color sandstone.
Plastic is not very rigid, I should have made the model a little bit bigger...

My Christmas Decoration arrived this week :-)
Although one part was broken, I really liked the outcome of the design. And as always, I am impressed by 3D printing.

Here are some photos of the decoration. So, what do you think? Any suggestions or possible improvements?

Some small stars with a bigger one in the background:
https://images3.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/625x465_2879223_7851557_1417975718.jpg
Available in my shapeways shop at http://shpws.me/zefg

The bigger star more closely:

Available in my shapeways shop at http://shpws.me/zefY

Some stars for decorating thin objects like a mirror. These can simply be clipped on.
https://images2.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/625x465_2879180_7851597_1417975982.jpg
Available in my shapeways shop at http://shpws.me/zeg0
One ordered mirror decoration was broken. But shapeways' support was really great by offering a reprint. To improve the structure of the model, I might do a minor update soon.

Update 8th December: Updated the mirror decoration model to slightly increase thickness of the clamps to hold to the mirror. This should not affect printability.

I received my first print, and I'm both impressed and disappointed.

Impressed at the accuracy of the print. Sure, it's a little rough but I expected that. My model is tiny and I designed it to be minimal as I was considering ordering the hinge in brass after inspecting the plastic sample.

My disappointment is due to my own design. In my enthusiasm to make it as minimal as possible - I made it very thin, right on the line of printable. Unfortunately, the model has some weak points and I eventually broke it (and glued it back together)

I've since revised my design, given up on the idea of having it printed in brass, and have placed my order for the re-designed (beefier) model.

After sitting patiently waiting for the package to come in it finally arrive and what treasures it held! Working on improving my Torrent Mech and offering some different options was worth every second!

First up I made a smaller "Miniature/Figure" version which I had printed in WSFP and FD. It's a single piece and only barely more than an inch tall;

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g281/MikeTehFox/TorrentMiniProductWSFP01_zps6509e1d2.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g281/MikeTehFox/TorrentMiniProductFD01_zpse438c571.jpg

I had initially only done the WSFP as a test so see how poorly all the details would be done at such a small scale but while it's still not as crisp as the FD print a lot of details came through pretty well all things considered, I might even try ordering some in color later on as well. You can find this in my shop HERE.

I also made up a "model kit" version as well, this is much bigger, about 2.5 times the size and comes in 29 pieces all sprued together for those who want a bit more choice in how it's posed;

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g281/MikeTehFox/TorrentKitProductBSFP01_zps115b66b6.jpg

Once assembled it will look something like this but slightly larger(about 20-25% larger);

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7573/15056790173_41194b5d23_c.jpg

I should hopefully get the chance to build it tomorrow or the day after, the blue should photograph much better than the white! You can find this in my shop HERE.

Now that these are basically complete and I have a much better grasp on the process and how far the limits can be pushed I'll definitely be doing more of this, it's almost addicting to see my 3D work become something actually physical after all these years of "settling" with modding video games! xD

Comments and Questions welcomed!

So, I wrote up a chunk of PHP to convert a low-res PNG, pixel by pixel, into a full-color sandstone model. Then I set it loose on the character sprites from the classic FPS game Wolfenstein 3D. They seem pretty sturdy and are just thick enough to stand on their own.

(I'll note that I'm not planning on selling these, so no need to warn about IP issues.)

Hi Shapeways fans,

Minimal Jumble is a skeletal twisty puzzle, built to help understand the concept of jumbling. It can be seen as a Jaap's Sphere representation of Fairly Twisted.

It's been a busy week... 2nd item arrived today ^_^

Modelled using data released by the ESA, this little charm could equally be used as a pendant or key ring attachment.

Shown here in polished grey steel and available in other metals and plastic in my shop, here.

Steven

As a huge LEGO fan, specially LEGO Star Wars, I had to make some custom weapons of my own. I think this is the ultimate level of loving LEGO, make your own!

So here they are, my first set of custom Lego Star Wars weapons 3d printed and fit the hands almost perfectly!!!! Kind of hard to see the fine details though because of the lighting and crappy iPhone 4 camera. But pretty happy overall!!

Hi Shapeways fans,

Deep Cube is a make-over of the Bingo Cube. Bingo Cube was invented and built by Evgeniy Grigoriev, with support from Aleh Hladzilin based on an idea posted at the Twisty Puzzles Forum. It can be considered a two-layer variation to the Dual-Fold Floppy Cube by Sigurd Wedel.

Deep Cube is a so-called "deeper-than-origin-cut" twisty puzzle. Other examples are David Pitcher's award-winning Rotoprism 2 and Enabler Cube. Deep Cube has a big hole to show the core. This helps understanding the mechanism. Only two faces can turn, namely those not interfered by the big hole. Two layers always turn together because of the deeper-than-origin mechanism.

Deep Cube has a mechanism that locks and unlocks faces, similar to Bingo Cube. Whereas Bingo Cube has a special edge piece that unlocks the two centers that it is adjacent to, Deep Cube has locking pins in all edge pieces to locks faces together that are opposite the big hole. The mechanism of Deep Cube is similar to Enabler Cube, where the "enabler" piece disables rotation of opposite faces.

A new breed of soldier for a new breed of war. The Future Soldier was launched in 2020 to deal with close combat inner city warfare once the powers of the world realised that the time of the big bombs were gone and only elite infantry could win wars.

Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Full Turn Cube is a fully non-functional 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. Whereas Half Turn Cube supports only half turns (180), Full Turn Cube only supports full turns (360 degrees). This is achieved by offsetting all six rotation axes a bit.

The purpose of this non-puzzle is to demonstrate Rubik's style turning to children without the hassle of solving the puzzle every time that they scramble it. The purpose of this non-puzzle is also to confuse cubers for the amusement of its designer, and perhaps some inspiration to other cube designers.

Watch the YouTube video.
Buy this non-puzzle at my Shapeways Shop.

Check out the photos below.

Enjoy!
