Another successful design by JEEVI. I received my test prints yesterday for the Victorian Railways narrow gauge NM cattle van in 16mm scale (1:19).
These are big models ( 400 x 100 x 120) and the printing is excellent. I thought this would be really tough for Shapeways to print but it went off without a hitch.

This model is an excellent companion to the VR NU van also designed by JEEVI and is designed to fit JEEVI's 25 'underframe.

Well done JEEVI and Shapeways!

Hopefully there is more to come in the way of NQ, NH, NT and NBB wagons

A client wanted a small silver pendant based on a similar one worn by a celebrity. This was the result.

Inspired by the Steampunk genre, this item has the rough shape of a cross consisting of connected, static gears.

I just got my new Iphone case in and I'm thrilled about it! It's my first phone case print and I was a little nervous about the fit, but it's a perfect fit! I modeled it to look like an alien spine and it has a very smooth feel to it.

This is the Sierpinski tetrahedron made with 204 hearts. I made it last year for Valentine's day, the wedding contest reminded me to make it public.
It was inspired by the brilliant xkcd webcomic: http://xkcd.com/543/

The print in dyed WSF turned out really well. More details:

Hi Shapeways fans,

Polo Shift is yet another brilliant idea by Alex Polonsky. Seven of the corners of a cube are shifted around the spherical core. While shifting, the corner pieces change orientation, which makes this puzzle confusing to solve.

I received my 16mm scale (1:19) Puffing Billy underframes by GVROCKSNOW today. These are the Version 2 with the 1mm section thickness. They are 400 mm long and 100mm wide and they are superb! All the detail printed beautifully. The truss rods and piping are delicate, but that said they are close to scale thickness which I like. The actual frame is very strong due to the interconnected channel construction, despite the minimum section thickness and light weight. They were well packed by Shapeways (a huge box with gallons of foam) and all arrived in as printed condition.

All eight are excellent reproductions. There is no way any other cottage production method short of styrene injection moulding could achieve this level of detail and the C channels could be tricky even for this. I was going to polyurethane cast from a master I made (without the C channels), but my efforts can't match these models.

Accucraft AP11-738 knuckle couplers fit the frame openings for the couplers well and the Cambrian models Fox bogies also work well with them.

They are expensive though. It would be great if the cost per underframe could be brought under the $100 mark.

More Shapeways VR narrow gauge wagon bodies to fit these underframes in 16mm scale would be great of course. Otherwise I shall have to start building bodies for them for which they will provide an incredibly detailed platform.

A large package arrived safely in Australia via Holland.
AOK.
Nice 3D prints of the Oz Bushmaster ans ASLAV - very well done in HO and N Scale..

Very well packed.
Previous difficultie in overpacking and compression of fragile models appears to have been overcome.
Good use of air filled bubble wrap and thick wads of Poly fibre are very effectve.
However, there still exists the tendancy to stuff small items in zip lock bags barely large enough for some items.
I realise that the zip lock bags are used to keep all the bits together but pushing the model into too small a bag makes removing the item difficult and breaks things off.

Keep on improving!

Hi Shapeways fans,

Cubic Hourglasses is a concept by Bram Cohen. The puzzle has four hourglass-shaped pieces, and a three-quarter-circle piece. The object is to get the latter piece from the top to the bottom. The pieces do not only slide like in a sliding block puzzle. They also turn, pivot and skew.

I was thinking of phones and tablets while chewing on a Lego figure as you do. This led me to creating hands for Lego figures that can hold stuff properly. Not only phone and tablets but books, newspapers and cards that you can print yourself.

There are two designs both have the opening turning in. One design is the same dimensions as the existing hands but turned and the other has closed hands with a 0.25mm gap. Because they are printed in white and black flexible you can put anything in with a thickness of 0.25 to 1.50mm as you can see in the picture with the penny.

I'm not sure how many I should put on a sprue so please let me know how many you would like and I'll see what I can do?

They can be ordered here

Hi everyone!

This is my first print which I made as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. The text you see in the candle holder is a pattern of my and my girlfriends nicknames for each other, it says "gom<3gobb".

I just wanted to show you a great way to create a really fun gift for your loved ones, the possibilities are endless and all you have to think about is to have a hole above the light! Smile

Hi Shapeways fans,

Cheese Block is a 14-segment version of the 3-layer 6-segment Cheese Cake puzzle and the 10-segment Prisminx Crystal by Gregoire Pfennig. The mechanism is a straightforward 3-shells mechanism, as explained by Jared McComb at the Twisty Puzzles Forum, augmented by top- and bottom-layer sliders.

Hi there,

This is not a new model at all, but this is the first time I order it.

Here are 5 Repulsive Force Polyhedra.
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_301426_720032_1356118007.jpg
These polyhedra are constructed by putting a certain number of points on a sphere allowing them to move along its surface so that by repulsing each other they reach a balanced position. Then I replaced each point by a plane (that is: I took the dual polyhedron) to obtain those polyhedra.

Check this page or this page (by Alea Kybos) to generate them.
This is the basis for most of my Truncated Sphere Dice.

Here I used 8, 9, 10, 17, and 32 points and the result is the basis for Alt D8, 4-fold D10, D9, D17 and D32.

I am very happy to finally have them in my hands. Don't miss the video.

Hi there,

3 sets of dice arrrived.
The Odd Spherical Dice set (contains all the spherical dice with an odd number of faces from 9 to 19.):
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_663079_719520_1356098894.jpg
The DCC Expansion pack (contains 6 dice: D3, D5, D7, D14, D16 and D24)
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_650912_719518_1356098820.jpg

I also received the regular Sphere Dice set but I have no new picturew currently.

If you combine all three dice sets, you got:
- D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D9, D10, D11, D12, D13, D14, D15, D16, D17, D19 and D20 plus the D24.

You can get even more by adding:
- D18
- D22
- D32
- D33

You still got 15% off on the entire shop until the end of the year.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Bill Somsky invented an algorithm to design exactly fitting Looney Gears, which I would call Somsky Gears. The key understanding is to start with three gears on a diagonal inside the fourth, e.g. 37=7+13+17. Bill proved mathematically that this line of gears can flop around inside the larger circle while retaining an exact fit. Then repeat the process for another set, keeping the outer and central gear the same, e.g. 37=11+13+13. The final step is to overlap the two sets such that the middle gear of one set coincides with the middle gear of another set. This can be achieved only at discrete positions, namely Somsky Gear positions.

The explanation may be a bit hard to follow, so I hope that the video and illustrations help. The Somsky algorithm can help finding exact sets with four planetary gears. Bill even found a set with six planetary gears, which he expects to be very rare.

Watch the YouTube video.
Buy the gear set at my Shapeways Shop. I added the extra 13-gear.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Polo Glider is a design by Alex Polonsky. It combines a 1x2x2 core with moves similar to Alex Black Hole. One can also see it as a handicapped 2x2x2 cube with one piece missing, and allowing only half turns over two of its three axes. The puzzle should not be too hard to solve. One of the seven sliding cubies is attached to the core, but it slides as smoothly as the other six cubies.

I've made this scale 1:5000 pendant of the Berlin Fernsehturm (television tower) back in October as an experiment to see how thin wires would hold, but also as a little present for my girlfriend who originally is from Berlin. I've had it printed 3 times and with all of the models the top part was quite warped. This was the only one where I've managed to bend it back to a straight (ish) antenna. So I wouldn't recommend making long wires this thin (0,8 mm) But than again, you're not even allowed to anymore Smile

Sorry for the bad quality of the images by the way, it was dark...

Hi Shapeways fans,

Sixth Sense Huge is a huge version of the Sixth Sense puzzle ring, meant as big demo model. This six-part puzzle ring is a design by Bram Cohen, and developed by Oskar van Deventer. It is a "size 190", with an inner diameter of 60 mm and an outer diameter of nearly 90 mm. A solution was worked out by Daniel Danzi and D=D=, two puzzle-ring enthusiasts from Virginia, USA.

It arrived last week, but I wanted to wait for the little photo studio setup thing I ordered (one of those cheap tents) to arrive.

index.php?t=getfile&id=24018&private=0

I remember a certain movie from way back when where the main character had to eat a monkey's brains out of it's skull... So this is my take on it... in a sort of harmless way.

Find it here: http://shpws.me/mskW

p.s. not quite sure about the photos...could be better... way hard to make a pretty boiled egg! Not just the boiling time... but also cutting it open... it took 4 eggs to get these.

Although, I resized the Amulet of Talos since I ordered, so I'll need to order a new one to take a new photo... but oh well, they both look great Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Gotta say, despite some major issues they need to work out, I still love Shapeways Very Happy

Hi Shapeways fans,

Spherigears combines the ideas of the Sphere Gear puzzle (a mechanical maze puzzle by Oskar) and Bramboules. The combination was suggested by Bram Cohen. Spherigears has four spherical gears that each rotate with three degrees of freedom. The cage can be folded open in two ways, such that the spherical gears mesh in pairs, either AB-CD or AD-BC. After scrambling, the object of the puzzle is to get all spheres back to their original orientation.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Opposition Cube is a type of Constrained Cube. Rods are going all the way through the cube in three directions, so each face is bandaged by the opposite face.

I'm such a horrible painter and FUD is so difficult to take photos of in it's raw state that I very rarely post anything here, but here goes:

My model http://shpws.me/lmzC is of a railroad snowplow.

Here's the model in FUD after cleaning it in Bestine (heptane).
This step leaves a very nice white finish, as good as if you had primered the model.
index.php?t=getfile&id=23270&private=0

Here's the (almost) finished model: I've yet to put glass in the windows. Yes, that's a penny.. these models of mine are SMALL.

Here's a link to the prototype:

This was just an exercise to model and print a ring. It is not practical for wearing, except maybe at the range Very Happy
Those are 8 scale .45 acp rounds on the ring body, 4 on either side of the gun. Printed in S.S. and gold plated. What fun.
