Hi everyone,

I just wanted to post up some video demos showing 'Click' in action. These animations were expertly produced by daddymack of www.mack3d.com and show how cards are stored in and ejected from both the spring-loaded and manual-eject models.

http://www.mack3d.com/shapeways/ManualClickSide.mov
http://www.mack3d.com/shapeways/ManualClickFront.mov
http://www.mack3d.com/shapeways/SpringClickCutaway.mov

For those of you who haven't browsed through the DDW contest yet 'Click' is my submission: a super-compact redesign of the wallet concept that is front-pocket and formal-wear friendly. Please check it out, and if you like it vote for it! The contest ends soon and is running very close. If I were to win, the printing of my models would hugely further the development of 'Click' as far as physical testing, and my end goal is to make 'Click' available to the community here on Shapeways in some shape or form.

Thanks again to daddymack for his pro bono production of these excellent videos. You owe it to him to check them out, because they are gorgeous!

sincerely,
eMansipater

This is mearly a question of curiosity, I'm not sure it is a question that is very relevant but how much do the various materials weigh? I was wondering if the material would float in water, although In the video showing information about shapeways on blendernation in looked as though it sank :S

I work here
As the topic says: welcome to our new & improved website! We've put a LOT of work into creating a more welcoming, fresh and inspiring environment and we hope you'll like it.

Besides the eyecandy, the biggest functional improvement is that we now support the STL file format for model uploads. That should make it quite a lot easier for everyone to get their models on the site.

You just might find the odd bug here or there. If you do, please leave a comment.

So, what do you think? Is is an improvement? Smile

Cheers,

Bart

Good afternoon guys,

I am trying to print this but I have no idea why I get thin walls problems. Some of the highlighted issues are thicker than the other parts which are thinner but have no problem.

It is getting very frustrated and I had to demolish such a lot of detail to get it to print I am approaching the point where I think this cannot be printed at the resolution and size.

This is a WIP and I am just randomly thickening parts in a crude way to get it past submission. Is there any program that can just do a thickness check before I submit as I have had 7 submissions and every time there are some parts that are okay and some not.

Notes:

This is a miniature that is used in role-playing games. It is +/- 28mm x 28mm big. I am trying to print it is ultra detail frost (as I assume this is the medium with the best detail)

STL attached.

Ok, so this is my first attempt at something like this, so go easy!

Surprisingly (or not!) there isn't much like this on the market other than an expensive aluminium one, and a cheap 'kiddie' one made from EVA foam.

The design was driven not by the need for a handle per se, but for a way to steady video shoots made with the iPad. Bear with me on this.

You see, an iPad held from the end of your arm makes for a crude Stedicam - and because of the positioning of the handle on my iPad Carry, the lens is towards the lower edge, meaning you can 'sweep' the iPad over stuff or get dramatic low level shots. That's the idea anyway. Also, it's a handle! Smile

This test print was a bit on the tight side, which called for some (ok, lots) of sanding and some minor modifications with a Dremel to get the fit in the photo and even then it's tight. The clip is sturdy if not that pretty, but often the simplest approach is the best. And the hole for the headphones is way out; don't know what was going on there... my measurement point of reference must have been out.

Hi all,
the last week i saw on youtube a very cool short film from Richard Gale.
I was very inspired from the demon that pop out in the film, the Ginosaji.
I think i will do it in full color sandstone, but i don't know the printing size, i'd like to preserve as mush as i can from the face.

Here an image of the work'n progress.
I decided to modoify a bit the face and exaggerate some features of his expression.

Hello everybody.

I've been lurking and occasionally posting on these forums for a while. I made several prints, mostly jewelry as that's pretty easy come up with and doenst need any texturing or rigging.

But now I have made a character for my university as part of an assignment and I would like to pose and print him. I could do the easy thing and just print him in FCS as is, but that would be really boring. so I'm going to be posing him in a nice pose that fits him.

As this is going to be my first venture into FCS printing, I was wondering about a few things. As you can see in the screenshot, this character has some shaders on him. I have some ideas on how to fake those and get more detail in the print, using displacement maps.
I was just hoping to get some advice about some of the pittfalls I could run into with printing a model like this.
If anyone has any advice, please let me know Smile

I built a textured model in Meshlab and exported it as a .wrl for printing at shapeways. That worked. Now I would like to combined several such textured models into a single file, but I cant figure out method short of combining untextured models and retexturing them all as a group. Any solutions?

I've been working on models of the sonic screwdrivers from Doctor Who for years now and over the past few months have tweaked them to be perfect for 3d print applications. I already orders all the parts but while waiting, I'm overly anxious to paint and assemble the models, so I'm occupying myself by posting about them on forums like this one. Without further ado, here are the 3d rendered models:

And now I wait. I'll post some of the finished pieces in the Post-Production forum to show how they turn out.

Hi forum members!

I discovered this website today and it inspired me to design something new. I have come up with a holder for the wireless charger of the Nokia Lumia 920. This way its easier to interact with and read while its charging. Lots of people got this charger for free with their 920, so i wanted to offer something unique to make the charger more useful.

But i have doubts about if its printable or not and if the holder could withstand a weight of 280 gram/9.88 ozs. What do you think?

I appreciate your help!

Kind regards,

Relief

I'm trying to create photorealistic scale models of animals. This is my first attempt of creating an organic model. I've experiance with architectural 3D design, but organic models are a different league I've noticed. I've finished my first animal: The Giraffe. Here a few pics of the two models I've made:

index.php?t=getfile&id=24759&private=0

I've also tried to give my shop a nice design and make my shopsections clear. http://www.shapeways.com/shops/mininature
When you've some feedback on my models or shop, that will be very helpfull. English isn't my native language, so if you spot some strange phrases or words in my shop, I'll be thankfull when you let me know.
In the future I'll upload more different animals & poses.

Hello. I'm attempting my first print with Shapeways and wanted to get some opinions of people who have already had prints made, and/or Shapeways associates.

My wife is from the Bahamas and I wanted to make her something that reminded her of home. These are based on the Bahamian flag. I plan on printing these in polished silver and don't want to waste the $40 if they will not turn out very well.

The size is 1.3 inches. Will the detail be translated well at that size?

I am ordering test prints today (in a bunch of different materials) of my series of coral-inspired models. They are basically all the same model, but are sized to to have similar price structures. Additionally, the WSF model has been hollowed in order to make it larger. And both the WSF and Ceramic models have the three base nodules cropped.

The model was generated with a single mathematical expression using the implicit surfaces filter in MeshLab, and has 3-fold rotational (trilateral) symmetry.

model pages:
Fuddle Silver
Fuddle Steel/Bronze
Fuddle Color (sandstone)
Fuddle Ceramic
Fuddle Plastic (hollow)

I'll post pictures as soon as I get the printed pieces!
Meanwhile, here are some renderings...

Hi People.
I have finally redesigned my rocket to fix several flaws inherent in the first design.
This version should be more heat resistant, stronger, less likely to loose the nosecone after launch and handle transport better.

renamed to the SPRO MKII.

I should be purchasing and test firing the rocket over the next few weeks, untill than it is FLY AT OWN RISK if you decide to purchase it
(but sometimes the fun is finding cover and not knowing exactly what it will do)

also due to more material used in this version the price has increased:(

please don't hesitate to tell me what i have done wrong, or any improvements that i could make XD

I just finished designing a case for the iPhone 5, what do you think? I will be adding new design and different types of cases, as well I will be continuing to create cases for the 4/4S.
