This is a good idea for the short term, while we can rely on our integrity as a small community.
But for the long term, it could cause some problems. Again, with "gaming" the system.
In IMVU they have put in place a peer review system in order to monitor acceptable content (ie. not by quality, but by appropriateness - GA rating vs X). People have tried to game these ratings by submitting a product, which is rated for appropriateness, and then resubmitting it after rating. As a result, IMVU has had to make all resubmission also go through the peer review process.
What I can see here is ... someone submits a design for the Dutch Design Week contest, and gets decent ratings. And then they change the product by resubmitting a character for the up-coming Character Design contest. And now they have a head start with a decent rating for the next contest.
I do agree with you though ... I have, in a couple of occasions, wished that I could update a product and not affect my ratings. In the end, I opted to just resubmit the product, because the quality of the design was more important than the ratings.
Maybe there is a solution somewhere?

I think having an 'update model' button would be a good idea. Being able to keep ratings, comments, favorites (and description & photos - being lazy) after revising / fine tuning a model makes sense.
I thought there was a way to do so because there is a 'last updated:' line in the model info. I was trying to find out how and found this post.
The update model function hasn't been implemented yet, has it?

Dear Forum members,
Maybe I'm bold. But why do we need ratings for?
I just interupt not reading all the other messages.
I only see them usefull in a competition.....and even then....why?
I think a competent jury ( a mix between technical, artistic and comercial people ) with some forum members might be better.
If just anybody can rate then who at the end is rating......and what?
From my perspective its nonsens.
If sombody orders you work thats the best rating there is.
So maybe a top 100 is the best and most impartial rating.
Greetings AO
