Hi all,
I've got a nice 3D model of the marker from Dead Space here:

And I have couple questions:
1. in my 3D file I didn't have what is now a red stand on the picture: http://images.shapeways.com/model/picture/640x476_603130_459 477_1339613355.jpg
how it did appear? do i have to pay extra for this volume?
2. as it is supposed to be a lamp, I want it to be hollow inside. How can I be sure that this is the case (I can't see it from the pictures provided)?
3. what material should I use if I want to paint it later in red (the material should be at least semi-transparent)? What varnish or paint would you suggest to use?

The model is private.. we can't see it. Mark it "Display to public" and we can take a look.

Get yourself a copy of Netfabb its free. With it you can check, measure, scale and repair your files. It will check the wall thickness, to see if it is hollow.

As for your other questions. The block must have been in your original file for it to show.
The only transparent material Shapeways uses is Frosted Detail & Frosted Ultra Detail. Have a look on this page.

As for painting it might be better if you used a red lamp.

There is also "Transparent Detail", which is somewhat cheaper than "Frosted Detail". All of them can have rough spots on their surface, but this is easy to polish away.
Painting is possible with various types of paint. I use acrylic colours without problems. For a lamp, there are various translucent paints you can use.
