On Ubuntu 9.04 with the latest Java it fails loading the app with a error
java.net.maleformedURLException unknown protocol:socket

Hi,
Would you please be so kind to let us know what java version you are are using?
To my knowledge Sun java does work, however openjdk sometimes has problems indeed.

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.3-b02, mixed mode)
on Ubuntu 9.04
I suspect: I'm using the new plug-in that might be the issue. Also network latency is *way* higher from Asia than other locations.
