Today i had a silver bead that i had printed at shapeways covered in patina.

This is a black tarnish that is formed after submerging the silver in certain chemicals.
After that the silver item is often polised again.
All the open spaces will be cleaned out.
All the seams and secluded parts will remain black.

This will add a lot of depth and detail to silver items.

Would it be possible for shapeways to offer this as a service, similar to having "silver glossy" next to normal "silver" ?

here is an example of a silver bead covered in patina:

If it's not already there, you could suggest it on the feedback site.

Well, the problem with this idea is that one person's idea of a "nice patina" is another person's "holy **** that's too black!"

It's actually quite easy to patina silver and you don't need toxic chemicals as with some other metals... in fact all you need is a plastic container, two or three hard-boiled eggs cut open and a few days time...
