hey folks. new guy to shapeways, been doing 3d modeling in 3dsmax for the last decade or so, as well as physical model building as a hobby.
last summer, i did a little custom scripting and turned a paper cutter (meant for scrapbooking and the like) into a rough 3d printer. it works decently enough, but it's VERY labor intensive, since i couldn't build a machine to glue the pages together automatically and had to do it by hand. that and the entire page of paper, model AND excess material, would be glued into one block. i had to use a pair of pliers and a few others tools to seperate the excess from the finished model. the pictures below show this pretty clearly.
time to see what i can do with shapeways. i'll post a more visually interesting modeling portfolio once i've actually tested some designs with shapeways.
