    Hello,

I'm stephane Nikel. I'm graphic designer

I'm actually working on a mascot for a company in collaboration

    So,

i'm working with Blender, ihave check your tutorials about it to preparing the files.

#A - Actually, the model is in separate meshes - I think i need to put it on an unique mesh for 3dprint . Right?

#B- Textures are they print too? Have I to link the textures with the file?

#C- The print is only in one material color?

In fact , i have two colors in my model. Can I let 2 colors or only one?

#D- We think to go for this size 4inches height x 2 inches width

How many cm3 we need? Can you give me an idea?

Thanks for your answers. (i prepare a third file posting)

  4. And finaly,

I'm actually preparing the final model, so i interact/union all pieces/meshes. (not yet finished on the image)

I will transform it into triangles.

I think i need to review a bit the topology.

'posting this one to be sure it's ok. It' the first time i'll use 3dprinting.

Great Thanks for all your feedbacks and tips to make our project possible.

    Best regards

    Stephn

  5. no you don't have to union(bolean) the objects together...

select all objects that you want to print together and press...

    ctrl-j

this is the join command and it will make everything OK. out of blender.

  6. 3D-oncall258-4.jpg hello , thanks for your previous answers.

I think the problem with meshes is fixed.

But for now , i have another one ( about material ans texture) i have tried 50 times to upload my file on shapeways, with some diffrents parameter, but i don't find.

in fact i export my model from blender, with his materials (2 colors + texture) in .wtl to meshlab , evreything seem ok , so i export the model to .stl to put it on shapeways. (the texture seem attach to the stl)

But the materials and textures are not applied

i'm feel a bit discourage, but i continue.

    any idea? Tks

The missing textures in the preview might be because Shapeways doesn't support color for STL files. Which sounds like what you are exporting from Meshlab.

Here's a quote from the full color material page:

When you say 2 colors and texture, do you mean you are doing a combination of vertex coloring and a texture? If so, try VRML export, as that supports vertex coloring with shapeways, plus the texture. Just make sure in Meshlab you check the boxes on export for textures and vertex coloring. Then report back what happens. I've never done both on one model before.

But you have one big hurdle out of the way, the model uploading without errors.

At 4 inches tall, looks like the thumbs might be safe from breaking. Is the head hollow with a small escape hole to help the price?

  8. hey,

    Tks Brian123 for advice.

It's seem that a really take hard and complicated way.. (with differerent type of export).

I've "restart" my preparing file. Making some test. Only with exporting VRML97 from blender. (on 2.49)

The upload seem working actually (also without going throught meshlab)

    Some explanations about the materials:

    i have 3 materials (shaders)

    -white
    -blue
    -one for the uv/texture

the "mixing" looks goods at Shapeways upload.

I hope these some words give you informations too. I ll give more when these will be more "complete".

Yes, we aim to have a average 4 inch height mascott, good idea for an "empty" head , i 'll check that.

    many thanks

  9. Hi,

    one question more for ShapeWays,

i make differents test for now.

Is the "Depth" here is the height of the Mascot ?

    Tks.

No the depth is your height. I think this should be added to UserVoice!
