My very first 3D printing arrived, and I'm very excited! It's the SBB L6 I mentioned earlier: The coin is 17.2mm (0.68 inches) in diameter.
No, they didn't get printed. After taking the photograph, I cleaned one of the models with acetone and it turned out that there are no rivets at all.
After removing the wax with acetone and adding a thin layer of primer: As you can see on the last picture, there are vertical lines which shouldn't be. The other model was printed correctly.

The project is still alive! I have now modeled the lower part of the model (I won't print the wheels! These are just for size reference). Next is painting and then finding someone who can print the markings. (New username as we can't log in using twitter anymore) Edit: I guess this would rather belong in the WIP forum...
It's been a long time since my last post! I remade the entire model, improving some things. Here's the latest, painted prototype: Unfortunately, there still are some problems with support material, as well as mild warping. However, this just seems to be the current quality of FUD.
Judging from the massive appearance of the N couplers, this is a very tiny model. Great work, retaining its fine appearance in N despite minimum allowable thicknesses. That's always a challenge. Have you tried using a hair dryer, or hot water to allow straightening the slight warp? I had to do this with a hair dryer on a car once, I had missed noticing it until everything had been painted (acrylic). I was concerned it would damage the paint, but guessed the hair dryer's dry heat would be less risky than hot water. It worked great, with no damage to the finish. This little guy might be a great candidate for printing in FXD! Steve Hunter
Yeah, it is! It's about 5cm in length. I've heard of the hot water method, I'll have to try it out. I still have some unpainted models. Did the hair dryer treatment fix the warping permanently? I already have one on order! ;-)
Whether you use air or water, you want the temp to get to 150F, then place it in / on / under something to hold it in place while it cools. There should be no warping after that. Your model printed in the printer with perfectly flat sides. It was during the cleaning process afterward that the warping occurred. It's "natural state" is flat...
