I've been using Google Sketchup v7.1 for a while and uploaded a number of
models created using it without any trouble at all. I've recently upgraded
to version 8.0 and my latest project was done using this version and I
tried to upload it to shapeways last week only for the file to be rejected
due to "invalid input file format". I exported the file to a .dae - as I
did with all previous models but this file was not accepted. I emailed
Customer support but they advised that they didn't have an explanation for
it and suggested the forums might have an answer.

The only thing I can think of (but it doesn't make sense to me!) is that
v8.0 creates a different type of .dae file than v7.1 does. I find this
highly unlikely so I'm asking for a bit of help, has anyone encountered
this error and what are the usual causes, and is it actually due to the
    version at all?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

  2. Hi avien, welcome to Shapeways :)

I use Sketchup, but never .dae for 3D printing - I prefer STL and use this plugin. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that when I get home and see if it works.

  4. I'd like to upgrade to Sketchup 8 but only if it's output is usable by Shapeways. Did the suggestion (of using the plugin SKP->STL) work for you? In general, are you able to build models in Sketchup 8 that Shapeways can print? Thanks...Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

I use Sketchup 8 for my designs and have printed several pieces through Shapeways. I use the plugin listed above to convert to .stl and have had no issues with uploading.
