| Q: Intersecting/overlapping meshes [message #2280] Fri, 19 December 2008 20:48 UTC |

I am new here and was wondering about 3D models that feature intersecting/overlapping meshes. Is that ok? Like for instance, I have a 3D character with separate eyeballs, hair, glasses, and clothing. Does the character need to be 1 single mesh?
Also, does the subsurf modifier need to be applied before exporting? (I'm guessing yes...)
Thanks

Hi roofoo, you can have the meshes all seperate, if they are connected on screen, they will be connected in the print. Clear any history and transforms before exporting.
Basically the polygons you export must go into a solid file (I'm using accutrans here) before you upload, hence they are the polygons that print. The current limit is 500k triangles
Good luck:)

Thanks daddymack. I'm using blender so I can just export as a X3D.

Hey Roofoo,
as of late my experience is that exporting to STL from Blender works just as fine!
regards.
