Besides a love for math and order, I also admire random and chaos.

Based on the earlier whirlwindy vases and the prospect of the new ceramics, the upcoming end of the world on May 21st inspired these:

    Chaos Cup <yournumber>

The whole form of this cup is defined by a single seed number:
Each number can create a dramatically different shape, and no doubt there are a few which will not work or topple over. But so far the method seems to average out and produces quite stable cups.
Luckily the surface are for the cups seems quite stable.

As soon as the Co-creator will officially support surface area, I hope to make them available.

In the mean time, I'm still prototyping them in ABS, and the additional saucers still prove to be quite trouble some.

And here's hoping Rapture does not come before my morning coffee :p

    Cheers

Lol, something about the words Chaos and Ceramics together just makes me giggle. Need some chaos plates to eat off of!

  3. Very nice - I'm curious what kind of software you use to generate such surfaces? I've seen 2D chaotic drawing programs, but not sure about 3D. I'm guessing you have to import the surface as some sort of point cloud and "mesh-ify" it?

    Thanks :)

The original concept was mesh modeled by hand using basic 3d tools.

I then used scripts to automate certain parts of the process.

But now I use a custom program that defines the basic shape and mesh (including thickness) and write that to an stl.
The handle is then modeled by hand using standard 3d tools.
I hope to automate that part too though :)
And modify a few things to make some unique saucers, plates and bowls too.

So any other designs/plans for the end of days? :p

No-one told me the world was going to end TOMORROW!

I've planned on spending all my money for the end of the Mayan calendar and now THIS. Come on!

    :confused

Ah yes, sorry it was only Rapture, seems we didn't make it..
And apparently we now have until October 21st..

So time to design more Cups :)

    Capsule cup, inspired by form.

Haha, cool! It also reminds me bit of a decapitated android logo or r2d2 ;)

    lol :D

Well, after prototyping in ABS, it needed some adjustments:

For better drinking comfort, a lower and wider version:

Still working out the final details, but this was the original idea behind the latest Cup.

    Hangover

A hanging cup for your double espresso the morning after.
It's in such a state that it can't stand on it's own, so it could really use some support

The cup is designed for a double espresso, but can hold an absolute maximum of 90 ml.

This rendering simulates an added glaze layer of about 1 mm.

I don't know about you, but when I'm hungover, trying to put a cup on a table is a challenge let alone a stand lol
