Creating, Editing and Deleting Posts on my homepage and profile page

I just posted to my profile page using the Share Something Awesome box near the top of the page. I am not happy with what came through. How can I edit it? I wrongly assumed html would display images and links in the post (since that's what we use in the product descriptions) but I was wrong. Now I have a post without images and links which is basically useless.

I don't think that's currently an option. I'll check.

In order to display photos that are hosted externally, or to display links, how do I need to format the URL so it displays correctly? I have ruled out HTML, but I don't want to experiment since I cant edit if things don't go to plan.

I don't know about external stuff but I just did a first one of these that included a SW product link that included the option ID suffix and the post automatically included the render for that material. It also has a nice show more/show less feature that allows you to display the photo or suppress it.
