May I interject?

This thread is in the 'work in progress' section, under the heading of Desiging dice for snobs', so when the works have progressed, and the model has been rolled a few times, perhaps a more informed desicion as to what will happen can be made.

fwiw, my Chained Die (D6) has around a 1 in 40 chance of landing on a edge and about a 1 in 300 chance of landing on a corner even though the faces are 'heavier' and 'bigger'... proof is in the pudding as they say Wink

It does not look like a die but it is. The trick is to look straight down on it when it is sitting on the table and you will see this

With a D12, the numbers on opposite faces should add up to 13. Make the paper version on Kevin Cook's website & you'll see the correct positioning Wink

This a unique D12 shape... each 2 opposites numbers do add up to 13.

Looking at the 3d model on your item page, align the 12 so it is facing the screen and then rotate by 180 degrees, the 5 is opposite, the 1 is opposite the 8... etc the opposite numbers around the middle 'ring' add up ok though.

I work here
You can also see it in the first image of it on this page. The 10 is opposite the 3 and the 12 opposite the 1, but on the top of the die. They should be opposite faces. If the die lands on 12, the number on the bottom should be 1. Right now it's on an adjacent face.

I'd love to do that, but my fiance and I are terminal financial fuckups. Which is partly why after living together for over 20 years, we still have separate finances and split the household bills. Every now and then, I'll screw up on something and she helps me out. Less frequently she screws up on something and I help her out. When we both screw up on something at the same time...

Get 4 dice in this pack. All made from nothing but the numbers. What do you think? One person called them beautiful. Hope you agree.

My first dice here... The D6-Cone! Opposite sides add up to 7.
Outside pips are dents, inside ones are half spheres. Inside and outside are oriented to be readable from all directions. Always the topmost result on the outside and the bottommost result on the inside are the same. Look at the "6" on the lying die Smile

http://www.shapeways.com/modules/udesign/utils/openfile.php?id=166326&f=photos/photo25844.jpg

Intended to be printed in plastic/alumnide this dice is not hollowed on purpose. It just has a canal through the middle. I f you like it but want it in metal, give me a head up...

Ok here is something a little different. This is a so called dice card. It can emulate every dice pair between 2D0 Smile and 2D10 with the included coins. Just remove any unneeded coins into the build-in compartment, close the cover and rattle yourself a random number Very Happy I would recommend a smooth surface material for this but i left everything but Grey robust and sandstone orderable.

Interesting Idea.

I have been busy with work, my dice testing service, testing my dice, and getting my 3d printer back up and running. Long story short have not designed to many dice in that last while but here is a cool one I designed that should be printable at home in its original size.

Super Die

http://www.shapeways.com/modules/udesign/utils/openfile.php?id=193004&f=193004.v0.s13.blender.large.jpg

For those of you with 3D printers of your own you can get the STL files HERE.

Can you show us some hi-res pics of your 3d printing at home ? - very curious how the die turns out !

Did/can you mod your printer to do even thinner hi-res layers ? - i haven't seen any ABS extruded 3d printed model that gets a "wow" out of me yet..

I still think it's a cool $1k toy but nothing more.. Confused

Hey, all Smile

Was wondering if something like this exists already...

http://www.shapeways.com/model/199775/comma_die.html

It's basically a die that allows you to roll random numbers with a comma like 5646161,13279. Very useful for math exams... =)
Faces are numbered 0 to 9, a comma and a minus sign.

You know, when I made one like that I was afraid I may have missed a better solution for the 2 side, but I guess that really is the only 2-sided 2D geometrical shape.

the simplest 2 sided shape is 2 arcs meeting at 2 points. giving the football shape. An oval would still only be 1 sided.

Personally, even if it is not a closed shape, I like the cross (x) for representing number 2: circle, cross, triangle and square for 1,2 ,3 4 (remember you some PlayStation buttons symbols?).

Ok that D10 looks pretty cool. I gave myself a chalenge to see how many I could make in 2 weeks with all being unique. Got to 191.

The entire pack is a little costly at $1499.99 in white or $1699.99 in colour but it is a lot of dice. And all are properly numbered and weighted.
