I'm trying to figure out if this is a UPS thing or a Shapeways thing. I was under the impression that items ordered in North America generally originate from the LIC facility but my UPS tracking says my order departed Kentucky today(first update since the tracking was generated before Christmas). Does Shapeways have a Kentucky factory? If not, UPS is crazy inefficient since I live about a 20 minute drive from the factory itself! Just wondering what other places people have had their shipments originate from!
That's a UPS deal. There is a (small) chance that your item was printed in the Netherlands, then bulk-shipped via UPS to in a BIG box over to the US, but even then, it should have gone thru the Shapeways LIC distribution center.
Everything within the USA is always (and only!) shipped from LIC, NY. Looks like a tracking update issue from UPS. Have a look at the USPS tracking updates, those are even worse I've seen packages going from NY to Dubai and back before they even got remotely close to the delivery address within the US
