Textures in Blender cut off at edges

  1. I've been trying to apply a texture to my model by bringing up the UV editing window, opening the texture, going in to edit mode and pressing u to unwrap the object. It only seems to cover the object to the edges and then repeats the texture, what am I doing wrong? also is it possible to join a separate object and have the texture cover that evenly as well? Thanks!
