upload stalls - no errors, but won't save

  1. This is my first upload. It is a 2' x 1' box with left and right side with square holes. It is a seriously simple object and fits within the bounds of most if not all materials. Wall thickness is 1" and 0.5" Sketchup DAE export.

After it uploads, every single material says "Loading" in the autochecks. column.

If I go to my models and check "show unprintable models", it becomes available for view, edit, 3d tools and delete. If I click on 3D tools, I see a material overview pane where "wall thickness" and "machine space" show a spinning symbol.

    And absolutely nothing else happens.

No errors, no messages, just perpetual wait state.

So, what am I doing wrong?

  2. Just uploaded it. It worked fine for me, native DAE.

I took the liberty of converting the file to STL, X3D (Blender).

One of these might work better.

I'll post an image when it's done being evaluated for printability,
that will also provide cost quotes.

  3. Update:

    Still waiting...

    17:40 - 18:36 = about an hour.

    Wow.

(I might add, that's 3 different model types: DAE (your original), STL, and X3D)

    Equal opportunity- SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  4. First results back on the original DAE.

    Maybe size is a factor?

  5. Yep, size, DEFINITELY a factor.

  6. Here's a composite of the original dimensions vs a reduction to 1/10th original size.

For some reason, I couldn't get the DAE reduction to keep YOUR dimensions when
uploaded. That's why the reduction is an STL instead.

  7. Thanks for all the help!

Clearly, I misunderstand the intention of 3-d printing. For some reason, I thought we had moved into the world of feet, not just inches.

  8. Glad to.

Yeah, I think two things 3D has to work on:

    Fine detail

    and

Affordable Large scale / Mass quantity

    Maybe they're accommodated somewhere
else by some other method, but, not by
    Shapeways.

Most sites seem tailored to small / individual
interests. Can't help but think that's a function
of the state of the technology.

And, yes, it's an evolving technology.

    Maybe not today.
