? UDF integrety and life span question.

Discussion in 'Materials' started by Peolini_Design, Feb 11, 2015.

  1. Hello all,

As I design small parts for scale models, I frequently get asked what the life span of UFD material is.
Is it durable and is there a shrinkage in some time?
My customers are afraid that the parts they order through you will not maintain their present guality and/or integrity through the years.

Thank you very much for any insight in this,

Depending on the size of your model it will have a bit of shrinkage over the years.

One of my customers ordered a 20cm long train (this one) and noticed that over a year it shrunk by 1mm, but it didn't shrink any further after that,
So I guess with small scale models of just a few centimeters in size, the shrinkage will be a bare minimum and probably not noticeable.

As for the life span, hard to tell.. my oldest model is +- 5 years old, and it's still doing fine :)
Don't think anyone will be able to really tell what the material will do in 20 years yet :(
