So where does one get objects 3D scanned? I want to take vintage doll heads and scan them, so I can make customized airbrush templates for restoring them. I'd need a 3D model of the original head, I imagine, and then I'd need to make a negative "mask" version of it and cut out the shapes of the various paint features. Is anyone already doing that? I don't want to reinvent the wheel.
Depending on how far you want to go with this, I think you can jimmy-rig a 3D scanner using a kinect. There's an instructable made by a 14-year-old kid who says it's easy... http://www.instructables.com/id/EASY-Kinect-3D-Scanner/
