Residue?

Being new to 3D printing, I have a couple of questions.

First of all, is there any sort of manufacturing residue left on a plastic surface?

Also, what, if any cleaning or preparation is required before painting either the frosted or high detail plastic?

    Thanks,
    Tony

The surface of the detail and frosted plastics in particular can be contaminated with residue from either the waxy compound used as support material, or more oil-like substances (probably citrus oil) used to remove it. While dishwashing liquid should take are of both without attacking the acrylics, some people swear by heptane-based solvents (trademark bestine) which leave behind a rough white surface they claim is ideal for painting. See the Post Production Techniques forum for related discussions.

    Thanks!

I thought I saw somewhere that these plastics don't take well to sanding. Is that correct?

Apparently not - see end of this thread (which stonysmith just dug up in a different context)
