3D Printed Sculpting Armature

Discussion in 'My Work In Progress' started by MythConceptions, Jul 16, 2014.

  1. Hello,

I'm developing a series of armatures for traditional sculptors. The first armature will come in three sizes (6", 8", and 12"), and will have attachable/detachable hands. The armatures will have a reusable support rig that fastens to the back of the armature, and articulates to accommodate a variety of positions.

    Features:

    - Articulating joints
    - Multiple hand poses
    - Hinged jaw
    - Relatively cheap ($20 for 8" model)

If anyone has any suggestions or critiques, please feel free to hit me with them.

My armatures and rigs can be seen here.

(I do have a Kickstarter campaign to assist with the testing costs...)

Did you test WSF if it handles the weight of CLAY ? On the size intended ?

Do some test on that , clay can be heavy.

  3. Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I have not yet done a print test, but I plan to very soon. My experience with nylon plastic suggests that it would hold up. I'm more concerned about the support rig at the moment.

I might do a redesign of the joints and the rig before I test a print.

Just bought Pop Sculpture which gives a lot of tips on how to make proper joints and pins for articulating models.

  4. I'm think of switching my design to something like this. The model will be thinner, but will be supported by a lattice of bars. The lattice will also give the clay something to grip onto.

The cost should drop drastically, if the design holds up.

    This design it is better.

But yet , you must test it to see how it holds to real life use.
