Idea: Starting an online store 3d printing modelers' designs and paying them a percent

The idea is to create partnerships with multiple 3d modelers. I could then use Shapeways or friends that 3d print to make these designs. After a sale at the online store, the designer of the model gets a percent of the $.

Does this sound like an interesting business? Does anything like this exist? Would modelers be interested in sharing their favorite designs? Message me or post here if interested.

    Thanks,
    Ben

Yes. It's called Shapeways. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Shapeways is not that kind of service! [IMG]

Shapeways allows shopowners to set their own markup whilst allowing said shopowners to retain full IP rights to their creations.
A Shapeways shop owner can enable a model to be sold with no markup, or even allow a model to be downloaded by anyone for free.

I have been approached by similar companies offering a percentage of the sale price of my designs.
Seems great, and could be a lauching pad for an up & coming artist, but not for me.
I've also been approached by companies who offer me a percentage of the sale price of my model files... huh... no sir.

I'm cool with offering people my services as a 3D modeller specialising in 3D printed models guranteed to be printable via Shapeways, even if their intention is to set up their own Shapeways shop. Their commission, their model to do what they like with. [IMG]
