I've been playing with some Holiday Ornaments and the prints have started to arrive. These are done by taking one or two images and tiling them around a sphere 120 times. I'm really pleased with how they came out.

They are using our new ShapeJS system if anyone is interested in repeating my experiment. http://shapejs.shapeways.com

If you would like to make your own Holiday Ornament we made the ShapeJS script into a Creator:

Oooh, the creator is fun! I designed one and then edited it to add a hanging ring with the year on the inside. I will need to start earlier on the 2014 ornament! It's just the thing I need for some last minute presents to make the family ooohhhh and aaahhhh over 3D printing. I hope it passes rule check.

Very nice! My aunt kept mentioning we should add the year but I didn't think about adding it inside. I was thinking about a cylinder on the bottom with the year but it never seemed nice to me.

In my DuoOrnament I used a 1.6mm diameter cylinder to attached from the outer sphere to the inner item. It was a bit shaky but strong enough.

Are your ring interlocking, ie will the inner ring move separately? If so that's a nice touch and great use of 3D printing.

Yes, the ring with the year is hanging there with interlocked rings so it should move independently. I suppose you could hang just about anything inside of it but the year seemed appropriate and time is running out to get this printed. Now I can do a series of ornaments every year and pretend I'm a Hallmark designer!

I was able to upload the original ornament to Tinkercad after converting to stl and adding the additional parts there. A little merging, and a little removal of material in a few places so the year would be more visible and that was it.

I might do one more version today since I'm in the groove.

ETA: Or maybe not. The ornament maker is not functioning for me at the moment. :(

Thought I'd post a photo of my ornament before 2014 begins!
