Hi guys,
Next week, we will be officially launching our new "Custom Ring Creator" app to the public and would love your feedback prior to launch!
It is available here:
https://www.shapeways.com/creator/custom-ring
Built on our new API, the ring creator enables you to make a custom ring in minutes.
You can customize the pattern, size, height and even add engraving. If you are feeling particularly creative, you can also upload your own drawn pattern, and turn that into a 3D ring!
More details:
Customize existing template patterns or create your own.
Use 2D greyscale image strips to indicate ring patterns in an extremely easy to use manner.
Adjust ring measurements such as size, height, background, and thickness with easy to use sliders.
Size = Slider that uses US jewelers standard sizes in a range of 4-14.
Height = "Width" of the ring.
Background = "Thickness" of the ring band
Thickness = "Thickness" of the pattern, or how high the pattern will sit off the band
Add borders to the ring by adjusting top and bottom border sliders.
Engrave the inside of rings with a solid background width with your custom text by simply adding text to a text field and choosing the appearance.
Choose the material that fits your budget; the default is premium silver.
Check your ring for printability instantaneously through our printability visualization tool. If the whole pattern displays in green you are good to go; watch out for red areas as they may cause a ring to become unprintable.
With this app comes some exciting improvements in the background. The printability check part of the ring creator is a demo and first instance of the technology that will, in the future, bring you wall thickness visualizations and automatic printability checks for all of your models! We are reaIly excited about this, and we're sure most of you will be too.
The Custom Ring creator is also a great example of how to use the new Shapeways API. If you want to learn more, head over to the discussion in the API thread here:

Please let us know what you think! I can't wait to see what you create!
Happy Shaping,
Natalia
