Hi. So I wanted to make some custom ruins for my fish bowl/tank It would be for freshwater fish. Ive read around about it being okay with low levels of ph in the water, but i wonder if the type of sandstone from shapeways would be okay for fish? I like the fact that sandstone is full color for textures, and that it would sink.

In FCS, the gypsum is held together with a super-glue type substance.
That might not be good for certain hyper-sensitive fish.
I would think that it might be okay if you allow the model to "season" for a while in water of an equivalent PH without actually being around any fish.

The ink for FCS items is water-soluble, so it will soon be "not Full Color" - and I don't know what the fish will say about it.

You could cover it in varnish - not a water-based varnish, of course.
In one of the other threads there was a discussion of food-safe varnishes.

What Dragoman said. Sandstone is not water safe. Ceramics is only water safe on glazed areas, so if your submerging it, the unglazed base would be an issue.
