Hey guys i am completely new to the world of 3d printing. Does anyone know if a simple cylinder can be 3d printed? i am doing a DIY project and i need a 6.5 inch diameter cylinder and i thought maybe 3d printing would be a way of doing it. Thanks for the answer.

To be literal and specific, no, you can't make a cylinder. You are completely limited to making triangles.
But, if you make those triangles thin enough or small enough, you likely won't be able to distinguish the difference.

There are a couple of pictures here http://stonysmith.com/wired/scaling.asp that may help.

How tall of an object are you wanting to make? At 6.5 inch diameter, it could get expensive fast.
