I've always been a fan of these cars from my youth, I remember playing with the Corgi models of the Lotus and Ferrari as a kid. With the film Rush focussing attention on the 1976 season, I really wanted to make these cars (so I could play with them again!)

I'd previously modelled these at 1:200 scale as gaming pieces, but at 1:100 I could add a whole new level of detail and accuracy. In a couple of cases I had to revise the thickness of an element for it to print reliably - the roll-over protection hoop was a particular challenge, but I found I could push the limits of the material guidelines because the details were well supported by other material. After several months work, this week I received the last of my designs in my material of choice: glossy antique bronze plated stainless steel.

The 1:100 scale is just right to make each car an elegant keyring ornament so I added a discreet loop under the rear wing of each car to allow them to be used that way, or as a pendant.

    Thanks Shapeways!
