Walls vs Embossed Detail

  1. Hey guys, I'm trying to design some things for print in stainless steel. The design guidelines say the minimum wire and wall is 3mm. But then there is embossed detail and/or walls supported that can be thinner. My question is where does the line cross, or rather how should I look at the model to determine which guideline to go by?

    I'm really struggling with this specifically on extruded text.

    A good rule of thumb is that if the extruded part is higher than its width, it's a "Wall", if it's thicker than its height, it's a "Detail".

    Not sure that it works everytime, but it's a good start.

  3. Yeah that makes sense.

    Here is the model in question:

    The top line of text is offset to appear behind the bottom line, and then the top line is offset to appear in front of the hello sticker, so in order to have .8mm depth (as per guidelines) the furthest part of the text exceeds the width often, but it is also text so it is supported in some ways. What do you think?
