Ok another new guy here...
so far I've only got 2 items, but more on deck
Question:
The default renders done by Shapeways always seem to show up with the bottom showing... (image below right)
Why?
Can that be changed?
Do I change it or the Shapeways folks?

Get your self a copy of netfabb http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php
You can check, repair and scale your model here. You can also rotate your model, so it will show the right way up at Shapeways. The 'Z' axis is up.

Thanks, Rob -
I have netfab, meshlab and accutrans 3d
I didn't realize I needed to make the Z axis up for Shapeways, which is contrary to most 3d programs and conventions... apparently Shapeways is a special case scenario.
I don't think I'm going to reload models already in the store to compensate for this idiosyncrasy, but I appreciate your clarification

Wot????????
xy is what you can print on a paper plan, z is orthogonal to the surface of the paper. Therefore in the real world z is up.

The software I use is z up oriented, but others see it as Y. It's one of those, which ever way you do it, it'll be wrong to someone .
