My first design finally arrived while I was on vacation - it looks pretty much as Inventor said it would, much to my relief 
I want to make a second prototype before I place it in the shop, to see how minor adjustments for the tolerances affect the fit.
The nicest discovery is that, because the stand 'plugs in' to the case, it's held firmly enough to use horizontally for video watching, as well as vertically as designed.
Needless to say, I bounced around a bit once UPS finally managed to get it to me on third attempt.

The stand is polished alumide, the case is dyed WSF.
