@shop4stuff - yes, but what they show in 2013 was proposed in the 2011 video - and actually demonstrated.
@robertbonenfant - Yes, there is a ways to go yet ... hopefully we won't have to wait until 3013!

easy mistake - shop4stuff... stop4stuff 
anyhow did I miss the plot where the 2011 vid showed a shake-it-up to form thingy but the latest vid (in the bbc report) shows a 3D printed thing that gets wet to change form?

Which video?
The one in the BBC article I linked to has a 3D printed item that changes shape - the guys name is the same in the report too - am I being daft here in saying that the TED video talks about it, the BBC article and video shows it?

He talked about it on TED - in 2011 - and then in 2013 it is shown in your BBC link. In the TED talk he shows two changing shape while being shaken.
