I got that when I clicked on the link in the email - it was truncated.

When I clicked on the link on the forum I got in.

Sadly it's now too late the party really is over.

Maybe Shapeways can try this one next time. This is a webinar put on by Bunkspeed using Citrix Online. Sorry, I don't know a lot about it but it would seem to be better than a 10-person party!

Thanks for hanging out guys!

Sorry it got jammed packed, I thought making it public would allow more people into the chat, but alas.

It WAS great to actually meet some of you though! Very Happy

And thank you for all the feedback, with Carine's notes I've got some follow up emails to send to various people on the team!

I do apologize for those of you that missed out, I'm pumped about the interaction though, so it WILL BE MONTHLY from now on.

The go-to meeting might be an option, and maybe even going back to Ustream might work if we can get more people in...though I did like seeing everyone's faces!!

Natalia,

I hosted my first ever Google+ Hangout (during my Minneapolis Shapeways meetup) a couple weeks ago. I really like the format and want to do it again, but I'll change some things so it works better.

If you make the Hangout public, anybody can watch via your YouTube channel, but they cannot participate. They don't even need a Google+ page!

Adafruit runs a popular weekly show called "Ask an Engineer". Most of the show is streamed via Ustream, but they have a "Show and Tell" portion where users participate via Google Hangouts (which I think they stream via Ustream as well). Here are some links if you want to see how they do it.
Adafruit Chat
Adafruit Google+ Show and Tell
Shoot, you could just go over to their office in Manhattan(?) some Saturday night and watch behind the scenes! Laughing

Maybe Shapeways could do something similar where people that want to participate can do so via Hangouts?

It was a test of what hangout could do. We wanted to move away from ustream because of the commercials, especially when ones started to pop up in the middle of a stream. A lot of things fell through with hangout. But we'll find a solution that works best for all.

Guys...Google+ hangouts CAN accommodate more than 10 people that are just watching. Only 10 people can be in the hangout talking at once - any more than that would get pretty confusing.

MAKE magazine has been using Hangouts for the last few weeks for their summer Makercamp. Only a few people are in the hangout, but any number can watch live via YouTube.

Here's Maker Camp hanging out live with the physicists at Cern right now. There are 3 groups of people in the hangout, but many people across the world watching live as well.

BTW, I'm not a gung-ho Google+ fan, but I think it deserves to be explored further than we (at Shapeways) have so far.

BUMP!

Next Shapeways Live scheduled for: Monday October 15th 8pm UTC (4pm EST for those in the US)

I think we'll go back to UStream for this one, so more people can participate and we're not limited to 10.

We can chat about the new colors we're introducing and anything else you want to ask.

Topics:
1. New colors!
2. ?
3.?

Looking forward to seeing you all again!

Natalia

How about:

1) Update on changes for shipping items to Canada to avoid the ridiculous UPS brokerage/customs fees.

2) What's the latest on having fixed print orientation as an option?

3)Any chance of printing FUD in a larger build volume than currently available?

Hi guys,

We were hoping to do a pan-Atlantic SW Live with both Bart and myself but timing is tricky so the USA-centric one will be hosted today on U-stream at 2pm EST (thats 7pm UTC/GMT)

Mitchell is going to join us from the Customer Service team so he'll be on hand to answer questions!

We'd love to chat about what features you'd like for shops too!

See you online soon!

Natalia

Bart will post a time for SW LIve Europe tomorrow morning!

[20:01:54] SW_Mitchell: hi guest
[20:01:57] youknowwho4eva: Welcome
[20:02:07] SW_Mitchell: that is so cool, do you design yourself Ray?
[20:02:10] guest_2645: so i just read/watched the forbes article/video... nice site
[20:02:23] Ray716: Yes, I've even got a shop.
[20:02:23] GWMT joined the channel.
[20:02:28] SW_Mitchell: thanks guest, what's your name?
[20:02:38] Ray716: I've been a member for about 2-3 years
[20:02:39] guest_2645: is this a company who will design something for me and then print it and send it to me?
[20:02:44] guest_2645: jason
[20:02:46] SW_Mitchell: selling a lot during the holidays Ray?
[20:03:05] SW_Mitchell: Guest, if you can design it, we can print it

[20:03:33] Ray716: only sold 3 items this holiday. Hopefully things will change after I get my web page up. Very Happy
[20:03:34] guest_2645: well thats my problem, if i could design it i'd buy a reprap and print this myself Smile
[20:03:34] SW_Mitchell: so unfortunately you will have to design it yourself, our ask someone else to design it for you
[20:03:34] youknowwho4eva: We also have easy creators Jason, that you can create stuff using
[20:04:03] SW_Mitchell: true, altough reprap doesn't provide the quality materials which we do Smile
[20:04:06] guest_2645: i'd much rather have my idea powder printed though... so much cleaner

[20:05:00] youknowwho4eva: Also we have a modeler for hire section, and a modeler needed section in the forums
[20:05:24] guest_2645: well i want to get a set of scale model shipping containers built
[20:05:24] natalia joined the channel.
[20:05:32] natalia: Hi it's Natalia!
[20:05:42] youknowwho4eva: Do a search dude, I'm sure they probably exist already
[20:05:47] youknowwho4eva: Hi Natalia!
[20:05:56] natalia: We're having technical difficulties with the live stream,
[20:06:02] guest_2645: it should be easy, in fact there are already cad drawings out there for shipping containers... i just want mine to be parts that snap together
[20:06:09] SW_Mitchell: yeah shipping containers are definitely on the site
[20:06:10] natalia: Apologies, so we'll be here for chat
[20:06:19] guest_2645: this way i can assemble one without one of the walls
[20:06:30] GWMT: There are 3D containers on 3D Central and I think on GrabCad to download
[20:06:31] guest_2645: to use for scale modeling container homes

Sorry I missed it.. I was out delivering lunch to my wife.

If the user MagicVince happens to see this.. send me a PM.. I found that models of shipping containers aren't very cost effective in 3d prints.

It is a waste and expensive - Shipping containers are available
in most popular scales and liveries from RTR makers.

It would have to be a unique pattern to be worth while

Hey guys,

This year, we will be hosting Shapeways Live every month around the 15th, and alternating hosting it between New York with me (Natalia) and Eindhoven with Bart.

The first one will be January 16th hosted by Bart in Eindhoven, featuring a LIVE WALKTHROUGH of our 3D printing factory there!

Bart will post more details, including the exact time, in the next few days.

For now, mark your calendars, and post any specific questions you would like us to cover!

Best,
Natalia

Awesome to have a regular Shapeways Live again Smile

One suggestion for this thread = change the title of the opening post to up-to-date info Wink

And maybe something that can be discussed is the difference between the 'big' and 'small' WSF printer and how the difference in the printed result effects the accuracy of the print.

Paul

Hey folks,

how about 2pm, GMT+1 (Amsterdam time)?

I'd be more than happy to grab one of our printer engineers and have him or her answer any questions you may have about the machines!

Please give me any questions you may have now, so I can prepare them and get the right people on board for the show Wink

See you this Wednesday!

Bart
