How do I check the size of my model in 3ds max 6 and how do I check the thinest part of my model to make sure it meets the minimal thickness for printing? It gives me a number when I check properties but I have no idea what kind of measurement dimensions/scale 3ds max uses.

First of all export your model as stl
http://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/supported-applications
Get your self a copy of http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php
Open the stl file in Netfabb. Here you can measure, check, repair and scale your model.
