I love this 'A Little Sad Keanu Reeves

http://www.shapeways.com/model/364717/?ca=email&ct=0920& amp;cr=01

I would love to be able to make figures like this of my friends to sell and give as gifts.

How to begin?

Wow! I looked there & it really looks complicated to me.
Is it easier than creating in shapeways?

Sculptris is for sculpting models. Shapeways is for printing them. There are creators available such as the ShapeMe that you could use on Shapeways that all you need to do is upload pictures.

Sad Keanu was created by Blender, which is a free and open source 3D modeling software. There's a good tutorial here: http://cgcookie.com/blender/series/creating-a-realistic-head /

... or you can post on the "Need a Modeler" forum. Smile

Life drawing classes are a good place to start if you want to do figure work -- and what could be simpler than pencil and paper.....

I thought I would be able to use several photos of someone & somehow get it modeled in an easy way.

Try this one: http://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/shapeme

Make sure you use good pictures in neutral lighting!!! Otherwise the print comes out sunburnt. Check out the examples.
