I left-click, with the cursor in a pointing hand shape, on the little blue box that says 'edit' in the stock picture, Smile but nothing happens. How do I change my Avatar's picture?
I have attached the file I want to swap in, just for the heck of it. Smile

Try clicking the acutal word "Edit"

There are a few boxes around the site that look clickable, but they don't actually do anything..
On several of those, if you click the word "Edit", you get what you expect.

I had the same problem , using latest Firefox on XP.
I got round the problem using an Android tablet, using the standard Android browser.
It seems to be a bug effecting some browsers.
