In amongst other things, I currently working on some models with a woven theme.

One model is a ring, ultimately to be called 'Three Phase' and intended for printing in silver. So far I've got to a shape and style that I like, but I'm not a ring wearer and would like to know what, if any, preferences would be suitable for the thickness of the ring around the middle finger. Currently the thickness is 4.5mm but then, I feel is way too big. The model is at, http://shpws.me/4ZPd

I have a small bit of leeway in reducing the thickness but maybe only 1mm at most.

What's the opinion on thickness?

Cheers,
Paul

Another revision, the strands are 1.25mm thick, 2.5mm width, overall band width = 10mm, band thickness = 3mm, model 13U02PW10-260P25

I'm not sure if this would print in silver, as the gaps are a little narrow.

Hi Paul,
I looked at your ring design, NICE. I take it that 4.5mm is the max thickness measured from inside to outside diameter. This is not going to be very comfortable on your finger. Ideally, something like 2mm and you would not notice the ring is on your finger. At 3mm a band ring will take getting used to, and might be tolerable. I realize you have some design parameters to contend with for printing but I'd try flattening things down as much as you can. Even to the point where the surfaces kiss. I don't think you will be giving up that much of the WOW factor by doing this plus the structure will be a LOT stronger and less susceptible to crushing or deforming when worn. Good luck with this one dude.

Yes, the thickness is the band thickness (inside to outside), I'm trying to keep the strands sperated to represent the wave forms of three phase electricity whilst demonstrating the wye (or star) connections of a three phase coil set. Shocked

I'll try out some more iterations & see what happens.

Thanks arklan Smile

I've taken down the band thickness to 2.25mm with the strands intersecting slightly - 13U02PW11-0260P24.5 , http://shpws.me/51pD

To me it looks like there could be more iterations of the pattern and still keep the same look.

I've also used the same pattern horizontally for a pendant or maybe smaller for earrings - 13U02PW11H-260P24.5 , http://shpws.me/51q3

Sorry for the double post Rolling Eyes

Last night I showed my wife the design and she liked it. She asked for a bracelet.
