has anyone made multiple rings in a single file with connecting spurs, to keep the price down? and what would the spur thickness need to be and would placement matter?
This would defiantly save me some money.

It can be done and it depends on the material as to what size the sprue should be. There was a post in the forum about spruing Silver parts, iirc the recommended minimum was 2mm diameter for the sprues - I had a quick looksee but didn't find the post just yet.
Placement would matter, as both Stainless Steel and Silver prints are very fragile before infusion/casting - Stainless is printed using an organic binder which is then burnt out & the steel infused with bronze - Silver is made using 3D printed wax which is then cast.
Your best bet is to make up the model with sprues, upload it and shoot Shapeways an email with the model page link, or simply order the model - if the model is rejected, you'll get an email with reasons and a coupon covering your payment.
