I have just uploaded the very same model in two different orientations.
The only difference is a rotation by 45 degrees and the surprising result were two different prices for the identical model:
  • $ 42.82 for the "cheaper" one
  • $ 54.12 for the "more expensive" one

Check for yourself:
$ 42.82
$ 54.12 (prices may vary by location)

Thought you might want to be aware. It's probably wise to always double-check the price calculation against your own data.

Only the price for WSF and BSF is different, so it's probably this:
http://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/490-Significant-price -reduction-on-dense-models.html

@SHAPEWAYS: I can't easily find a link to that page. At least not on the WSF material or pricing page?

I think the first one has a volume that is 100% of it's bounding box.
So it's eligible for the discount for models with density above 10%.

The second one is diagonal making the bounding box larger compared to the model itself, reaching below 10% density I guess..

Cheers

Wanna see something really weird? go to glass, the more expensive in wsf is cheaper in glass than the one that is more expensive in wsf.

Hi guys,

ok this is easy to explain and indeed correctly deducted by virtox (thanks virtox!) it is the rebate on dense WS&F.

By orienting it corrrectly you save us time and yourself money.
