Awesome,
Thanks for posting:
Please tell me you are exhibiting it at 100% design?
I assume it does not come within the budget for the 100% Design contest?

super nice,
I dig the subtle swirl, gives it more life.
this should definitely be on a set of one of the tv shows. (numb3rs, criminal minds...)
curious as to what parameters drive this processing sketch, i have a feeling there's something more than just random, am I right?

thanks guys! glad you like it. It's quite expensive... base cost of ~$400 in wsf and then we'll have to add something on to make a profit.

Maybe something to offer as bespoke pieces? Never make two the same ones? That would justify a relatively high price.

hey guys. to answer some questions.
The ridges are on the outside.
Yes I think offering them as all unique pieces would be great. Shapeways should have an api that allows our website to send stl files so customers can order lamps generated on our site
No it will not be exhibited at 100% design, it is for an exhibition we are doing in San Francisco.
I put the finishing touches on the lamp today, as you can see below! And shipped it with two other lamp designs to SF for our exhibit. I also made the model public on Shapeways and added a bit of description about the design

I'm curious, it's $508.95. What is the cost with duties and UPS fees?

Not sure about the UPS fees, I ordered this lamp and two slightly more expensive ones and they were delivered with any fees being charged. Sometimes they do send us a bill in the mail later but nothing yet. The package had also been opened, searched and resealed with brown tape.

Hey,
even though it is a lot of money, some people might still be willing to pay. Also this makes us work twice as hard to reduce SLS prices... Thanks for motivating us

thanks Peter. I think the price is not so bad actually, considering the price of other modern pendant lamps which run in the $2000 to $8000 range. But if we intend to sell this retail (ie. through stores) the price will have to be much higher....at least $1000
I think at $500 we can actually sell quite a few of them through our website with proper promotion. It would be more tricky to sell them through shapeways as there is no way to offer them as a finished package.

One way to sell through Shapeways might be to offer buyers to send the other parts separately for free, if they send you their shapeways invoice for the lamp by mail. You might have to think about how you can make this totally fool proof, but it could be a possibility.
If you're willing to share: do you do your own websites promotion through blogs, or do you know of better and other ways?
Cheers, Michiel

Hi Michiel,
To some extent I let the internet take care of things on its own because I'd rather spend my time designing than promoting. But we do particpate in trade shows and craft fairs. We also post photos on flickr, videos on vimeo, respond to press inquiries we receive and we sell wholesale to stores around the globe.
