Mathematica version 7 (and probably older versions as well) supports export to .STL, .X3D (3.0), .VRML (2.0), and many others.

Bit of a late reply but...

Does anyone know if this programme (or any other prog) will allow for the importing of X3D files and then scaling before saving again?

The reason I ask is the problem I'm having with ZBrush 4. I want to export a model in X3D with full polypaint info, but the scale is horrendous. The same model (tool) exported as an OBJ comes in at 4cm into Rhino but sent to Shapeways is then 4000 cm's !! Rhino cannot import X3D files (at least not my version).

I know someone posted a workaround here regarding adding scaling into the text file of a VRL but this would have to be different for the X3D file, right?
