Any idea why i dont have the white color on this coaster ? instead, the phone's handle is yellowish...

Was it my bad? or shapeways printer?

I understand there is a White cartridge that takes care of the white color - or am i wrong?

I seem to remember in the beginning of full color, there was mention of the white being off white. I like the clip idea. The coasters, I love my iPhone but not that much. Look great though.

hi
you're right. A white cartridge is used to print. But the infusing process with the resin makes it a bit off white. For the sandstone material the off white fits perfectly with the surface profile.

We are doing post processing testing to let the white remain 100% white for the full color prints...... But I cannot make any promises yet.

Bye!

So it is a product of the post processing to harden the objects. Is it possible to offer the full color not resined and shipped extra packaged? Is it the resin that is not 100% clear, or is it pealing the white off?

Thanks

Now you can.

I just added the option to add TEXT in the co-creator to be engraved on the back or on the front of the coasters.

Also, if you prefer a particular font to be used , write to me at the notes of the co-creator and i'll have it engraved with that font.

I would like my logo to be the image on the coaster... not the apple icon. Is that possible?

Yes it's possible , send me the image of your logo (hi-res, at least 700K file) after you order and i'll replace the App image with your logo.

You can also add text to be engraved on the back or front.

Since white is the foreground of any color picture , shapeways
resin infusion turns full color sandstone model into a dim and
somewhat "dead" colors + off-white Confused

Only when i spray my color models with a clear acrylic spray then
colors turns vibrant and the yellowish areas turn into off-white...

In fact it so happen that the same very words are written at the
manufacturer's website: Zcorp.

Here are photos of the coaster before/after i coated it with the clear acrylic spray:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I would like to suggest the following:

There is a simple process of dipping a model in a clear epoxy
resin which cures very fast in about 10-20 minutes under strong UV light source.

If shapeways team can test this process it would yield:
1. A tough model (epoxy coated).
2. Shiny
3.Glass-smooth surface
4. The white stays white.

Hope it will be considered for a test.

The infiltration isn't Zcorp's, but Xlaform's, IIRC. But there are other infusion methods beyond Zcorp and Xlaform ones, let's hope they find one with nice colour reproduction while still keeping the object usable (I left fall a small object from around 40cm, it bounced in the tiled floor and smashed against a metal corner, it got a dent, but didn't break). When evaluating this I would like to see properly made photos with a colour target in the frame to compare, as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqeSI0z41QI looks nice but then reading the maker info it is described as yellow, so I'm becoming more and more suspicious of typical webcam/phonecam/pointandshot imagery. This is the process i referred to - check out the "close up" finish.

Basically, if a full color sandstone model get dipped once or twice in this UV sensitive epoxy and then put under few UV bulbs
for 20 minutes - we could get a shiny , glass smooth, tough epoxy coated model.

what do you think?

It looks interesting, Shapeways would need an infiltration system that just holds the shape while processing and keeps the colours. Now the problems I see with this Ultradome solution are that they describe it as not inkjet compatible (maybe other epoxy is, so this issue could be solved by testing epoxy suppliers and types) and that I have no idea how it would behave with, or be applied to, complex surfaces.

Their shop lists a bulleye level, that hints that it will get messy with anything non flat. I've used some laquers/varnishes, and while some work better than others, the common problem is hand coating requiring 2, sometimes even 3, passes to be able to hold the item. That is a general problem of liquid based approaches, but I guess epoxy makes the issue bigger (being stronger, non disolvable, etc).

So, hhm.. we'll have to wait for Shapeways to test and decide.
